The demand for products refined from crude oil other than gasoline – that is, the multitude of chemicals and by-products as well as aviation fuel, diesel fuel, and asphalt that the military and all infrastructures are dependent upon, support our current lifestyle addiction. High-energy societies enjoy a much higher standard of living than their traditional predecessors, and these gains have led to expectations of continued improvements.
