jose chalhoub + 388 August 6, 2018 Last Saturday there was an attack by drones loaded with explosives trying to kill President Maduro during a public act at the iconic Avenida Bolivar during the day of the national guard. They failed but raised the prospect for more radicalism by Maduro and his cronies. Allegedly this was caused by a group of students and military officials Soldados de Franela (Soldiers of Shirts) which alleged that even if they failed, this showed the government is vulnerable. But also there are versions that this was a cuban script for the government to impose more radical measures in the country. Certainly this will add more instability to Venezuela and its crippled oil situation.
Marina Schwarz + 1,576 August 6, 2018 That's interesting. Where did they get the drone? What's Cuba's interest here?
CMOP + 227 August 6, 2018 It could have been any drone - the future of drone warfare is quite scary. Imagine if they set off 20 drones with grenades attached.

I cant help but remember of all the fidel castro stories about trying to kill him. And still he managed to stay in power for 50 years. and because of cuban influence here, i think this could be part of cuban script to keep maduro in power, or also based on Turkey's Erdogan help.

Indeed. but so far no details about the drones used by the authorities.
jose chalhoub + 388 August 6, 2018 This could be the beginning of new wave of violent incidents. or also this could set the path for new purges inside the military forces in Venezuela like Erdogan did after the "coup" in Turkey. And Ankara now has been becoming a key partner of Maduro.
Johnny Margo + 5 August 6, 2018 No strong viable organized opposition group is visible nor does the opposition pressure Maduro. The country is lost and chaos reigns. Until when?

Until venezuelans recover strength to organise themselves and even without any credible opposition leadership we could overthrow this regime in shambles leading the country to a complete wreckage.
jose chalhoub + 388 August 6, 2018 This also might serve well for Maduro to justify further repression against his opponents and try to create a landscape of smoke and mirrors in order to divert attention from the current crisis the country is going through and make them forget about this, although its unlikely since the country is so far quiet and with the same problems for the people. So much for the theater that the government tried to create.

jose chalhoub + 388 August 7, 2018 Also these situations have served as a unifier for rulers on their behalf, although i dont know to what extent Maduro might enjoy of any charisma or pity by the people or their followers, even if there is indeed a sector of the population that still believes in him. jose chalhoub + 388 August 7, 2018 and also to add that right after this failed attempt to kill maduro on monday when all the public attention was still focusing on this, it was released a news that the government was releasing from paying taxes to PDVSA to the government. An interesting move in the middle of the smokes still after this.
