Monsanto hit by $289 Million for cancerous weedkiller

Recommended Posts

A terminally ill man has been awarded $289 million in the first cancer-related trial against agricultural giant Monsanto. The jury in a San Francisco Superior Court on Friday unanimously ordered the company to award Dewyane Johnson, a school groundskeeper, $250 million in punitive damages and $39 million in compensatory damages in the lawsuit that his non-Hodgkin's lymphoma was caused by his use of Roundup weedkiller and one other Monsanto product. Bad day for new German owners I guess

bad indeed. Shares in Bayer AG dropped 12% on Monday after recently acquired Monsanto Co. was ordered to pay the fine. But who cares

Nearly all of our food containing corn or soy products are contaminated with glyphosate.

Roundup is a carcinogen no matter how many lawyer lobbyists are assigned to say otherwise.

No science shows that Roundup causes any cancer. Many studies have shown it to be non toxic and non carcinogenic. California is known for its paranoia (generally nuts) regarding carcinogens - having one of the longest "suspected" carcinogen list in the world.

There is over 40 years of voluminous data on glyphosate, and it is possibly the most intensely studied agricultural chemical in history. Note that the EPA and the European BfR/EFSA also extensively studied glyphosate and performed significant technical reviews of previous studies, and both concluded that the evidence did not support the conclusion of carcinogenicity.

So what was the attraction for Bayer to walk right into a minefield?

I am sure Mr Johnson is not the only one suing. This was a long time coming. Monsanto has been poisoning us for a long time and we need to sue them out of business.

Monsanto genetically engineered the DNA of corn, soybeans and other crops to make them resistant to Roundup; it now makes more revenue from seeds and traits than it does from herbicide.

Monsanto faces at least 5,000 similar lawsuits in the United States.

This is crazy. Jurys cannot determine what causes people's cancer, that's a task reserved for doctors and scientists.

actually, our entire food supply is contaminated with glyphosate..... wheat, sugar, animal feed, orchards, vegetables, water .... it has promoted growth of various types of cancers both in human and animals.
