Tom Nolan + 2,443 TN December 8, 2022 https://archive.ph/mzAku ‘I expect a tsunami of shutoffs’: 20 million American households are now behind an average of $788 on their utility bills — here are 3 simple ways to drop your monthly costs Inflation keeps hitting hard. The U.S. consumer price index rose 8.2% in September from a year ago — down from a 40-year high of 9.1% in June. But hot inflation continues to hit consumers hard. According to the National Energy Assistance Directors Association (NEADA), roughly 20 million households in the U.S. — one out of six homes — are behind on their utility bills. As of August, these families owe about $16.1 billion in total, with an average amount owed of $788 — and the consequences of this could be dire. “I expect a tsunami of shutoffs,” Jean Su, a senior attorney at the Center for Biological Diversity, told Bloomberg. Electricity prices have spiked this year due to the skyrocketing cost of natural gas. According to the Energy Information Administration, natural gas is the biggest source of electricity generation in the U.S. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that September prices for electricity jumped 15.5% from a year ago. And just the month before, this marker recorded its biggest 12-month increase since August 1981. According to Mark Wolfe, executive director of NEADA, the country is “heading towards a period of unaffordable energy prices.” Wolfe called on Congress to act to increase funding to offset increasing prices. [Article continues with advice on how to reduce energy costs.] ~~~~~~~~~~~Biden's Energy Policies have pushed up oil and gas prices.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In response, influential Democrats, including a leading U.S. Senate candidate, a former Department of Energy official, and an influential energy expert, are urging the U.S. government to socialize America’s oil and gas firms. At a Houston conference last week, Jason Bordoff, Dean of Columbia University’s Climate School, called for the “nationalization” of oil and gas companies. “Government must take an active role in owning assets that will become stranded,” he said, “and plan to strand those assets.” By “strand” Bordoff meant “make financially worthless.” Bordoff made the point at least twice during the confrerence. Bordoff’s call shocked many in the audience. “Jason is smart, well-informed, and well-connected to the Biden Administration,” said someone who was at the conference, “so these comments are scary.” quote:" “Government must take an active role in owning assets that will become stranded,” he said, “and plan to strand those assets.” By “strand” Bordoff meant “make financially worthless" Edited December 10, 2022 by specinho

notsonice + 1,255 DM December 11, 2022 Looks like whoever wrote...."Biden Is Running U.S. Energy Security Into The Ground" was wrong on every level CNBC ENERGY Oil drops below $80 as demand doubt deepens PUBLISHED MON, DEC 5 202210:48 PM ESTUPDATED TUE, DEC 6 20223:46 PM EST Global oil prices slid below $80 per barrel for the first time since January on Tuesday, extending a downward trend as growing concerns about global demand offset any bullish effects from an EU-led price cap on Russian oil sales. Brent crude futures settled down 4.03%, to $79.35 a barrel, their lowest since Jan. 4. West Texas Intermediate crude (WTI) fell 3.48%, to $74.26 after hitting its lowest level this year. “In this market, the sentiment is more negative,” said Eli Tesfaye, senior market strategist at RJO Futures. “We could be looking at $60-a-barrel WTI the way that things are going. I think $80s are going to be the new high, and I would be very surprised to see any higher than that.” Service-sector activity in China has hit a six-month low, and European economies have slowed due to the high cost of energy and rising interest rates. If current declines hold, Brent crude will post its biggest single-day slump since late September. Both Brent and WTI futures on Monday recorded their largest daily drop in two weeks after U.S. services industry data indicated a strong U.S. economy and drove expectations of higher interest rates than previously forecast. The U.S. dollar index edged lower on Tuesday but was still buoyed by bets on higher interest rates, following the biggest rally in two weeks on Monday. A stronger greenback makes dollar-denominated oil more expensive for buyers holding other currencies, reducing demand. In China, more cities are easing COVID-19-related curbs, prompting expectations of increased demand in the world’s top oil importer, although that has not been enough to rally futures. U.S. crude oil stocks are forecast to have fallen last week. The American Petroleum Institute’s weekly report is due later on Tuesday, followed by government data on Wednesday. “Oil markets will likely stay volatile in the near term, driven by COVID headlines in China and central bank policies in the U.S. and Europe,” UBS analyst Giovanni Staunovo said. The market was also weighing the production impact of a price cap of $60 per barrel on Russian crude imposed by Group of Seven (G7) nations, the European Union and Australia. So far there is a “lack of an impact on Russian flows”, said Matt Smith, lead oil analyst at Kpler. “Russian seaborne exports and production are just not dropping. Along with fears of further rate hikes - crude is getting swept up in the risk-off tilt of broader markets,” Smith said. Russia has said it will not sell oil to anyone who signs up to the price cap. Russia’s January-November oil and gas condensate production rose 2.2% from a year ago to 488 million tonnes, according to Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, who expects a slight output decline following the latest sanctions.
