Going nuclear: French Official Quits Over Heavy Use Of Atomic Power

Recommended Posts

France produces almost three-quarters of its electricity from nuclear power. That didn’t sit well with Ecology Minister Nicolas Hulot, who abruptly quit his post after he “failed to convince” the government in questioning the use of atomic energy. President Emmanuel Macron, aiming to boost renewables as he prepares an energy-policy road map for the next decade, has pledged to cut the share of nuclear in the country’s power output to 50 percent, though state-controlled Electricite de France SA has lobbied him to agree to new reactors as its fleet ages. French nuclear provides a remarkable 76-78% of the electricity produced in France. With renewables coming on stream rapidly and amounting to 16% of energy generation, France is close to 95% low-carbon in many years.

France is already a global leader in producing low carbon energy... From before, the French government’s Energy Transition for Green Growth bill of October 2014 adjusted the future contribution of nuclear power to electricity supply, setting a target of 50% by 2025. The plan, to replace some nuclear capacity with renewables, is an attempt to give France a more balanced energy mix.

Fingers crossed. The way Germany is going about its power generation this could make France a serious power house in Europe.
Many of the studies have shown that nuclear power is not being renewed fast enough to match existing generating capacity. In the U. S. which has the largest amount of nuclear reactors globally – 100 in total – some speculate that as many as two-thirds of America’s reactors could shut down by 2030

Nuclear energy is cleaner and cheaper. It would cost SA at least 400 billion less than IPPs cost.

They shouldn't make the mistake we made in the UK.

After Sizewell B we should have had a programme building PWR's that looked something like this:

Sizewell  C - 1998

Bradwell B - 2000

Bradwell C - 2002

Oldbury B 2004

Oldbury C - 2006

Wyfla B - 2006

Wyfla C 2008

Heysham C 2010

Hartlepool B 2012

Instead that war criminal Blair scrapped the programme and went full bore with dash for gas selling off the UK's gas reserves at $20 a barrel equivalent.

Now we have to import loads of gas and beg the French to build  a Nuclear power station - Hinckley C - the most expensive building ever...>:(

And the uranium France uses for it's nuclear power... comes from Mali. For which the Malinese should get paid a lot more. Modern colonial order...

But let's all remember how someone like Blair ends up in control.  IT is because the selection process for national leaders excludes anyone with education in mathematics and physics.  The selection process self-selects those who have the gift of gab.  So you see people with proficiency in arguing.

Then again, Mali has the benefit of intermittent protection by the French Foreign Legion.  Ancient colonial Order......

The last PM the UK had with any sort of Scientific background was Margaret Thatcher. Before training as a Barrister she was a Chemist and was apparently instrumental in developing soft scoop (Mr Whippy) ice Cream.

Or, to put a more fine and  precise point on it, "professional shysters" and "amateur lawyers and bankers."!
