Stephen + 67 SM December 28, 2017 The Sierra Club is running a Facebook advertising campaign to oppose Kathleen Hartnett White, President Trump’s nominee for a top environmental policy position. The nation’s largest green group says in the ads that Hartnett White is “uniquely unqualified” to be chairwoman of the White House’s Council on Environmental Quality. “She’s said that believing in climate change is ‘a kind of paganism’ and dismissed carbon dioxide as a pollutant,” the ad says. JohnAtronis + 78 JA December 28, 2017 I would love to hear some of her "extreme" thoughts. “Throughout her nomination process, Kathleen Hartnett White has confirmed what her record clearly shows: her views are extreme, her words are staggeringly inappropriate and her disrespect for science and our nation’s chief environmental laws is a danger to public health,” Sen. Tom Carper (Del.), the top Democrat on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee said in a Tuesday statement.
Meanwhile + 49 PT December 28, 2017 She’s compared environmental activism to “paganism,” called renewable energy “parasitic” and said carbon dioxide levels have not gone up “drastically” in recent years. Sound like a good pick

More than 300 scientists (other side of the isle) wrote to the Senate opposing Kathleen Hartnett White's nomination to the top White House environment post. They cited the importance of scientific integrity and wrote that they oppose her nomination "because one thing more dangerous than climate change is lying." Rodent + 1,424 December 28, 2017 You can say that you don't like which way she leans politically, but you cannot say she's unqualified. Her service in the TCEQ means she served on the second largest environmental regulatory agency in the world (after EPA). As for the youtube video, that's just dumb. This position is most often held by regulatory types (including lawyers, judges, and art majors), NOT scientists. It's a regulatory position.

Joanna + 68 JT December 28, 2017 About 100 of President Trump's nominees will have to be resubmitted for approval next year after the Senate left town for the rest of the year on without completing work on them.
Stephen + 67 SM December 28, 2017 A year into Trump's administration and he still hasn't filled all of his staff positions. Not good. And then we have the elections in November. If Republicans lose Senate, I expect no progress
Joanna + 68 JT December 28, 2017 I suspect they are all as unqualified as his recent judicial picks. That was painful to watch

Kate Turlington + 44 KT December 28, 2017 All of these lobbyists on either 'side' are deplorable. Again, very important issues are being politically polarized and making it impossible for our society to do anything useful. Child's play and very frightening at that. Kate Turlington + 44 KT December 28, 2017 No one's really been qualified for many of the posts they've been given lately, so this shouldn't surprise anyone. But the Sierra Club doesn't do us any favors, either.
