Ah nice partial lie.  Mach E numbers are LOWER than 2022 even with a BIG 10% price cut...  Transit van are up, F150 lightning are up.  Wow are they going to be disappointed as soon as winter rolls around just like the last batch who bought them and then sold them instantly and why no one bought them later in 2023.  Yikes.  There was a reason after the winter of 2022/2023 they could not sell the F150 worth a damn...  I'll bet all the E vans were bought 100% by government types and not actual individuals.  ~120 miles in good weather... LOL!!!  No one in their right mind with an actual business would buy that trash.

Your data is old, some laugh.

Here is the recent data.

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/The-Car-Industry-Misjudges-Consumer-Demand-for-Electric-Vehicles.html

"Tumbling private demand for electric vehicles (EVs) has dominated media headlines throughout this year, fuelling car owners’ concerns over the high cost of making the transition.

Car industry data, provided by the sector’s trade body the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), showed sales to private buyers had fallen 7.7 per cent in April.

This week’s SMMT data revealed a similar trend, with EV sales to the general public slipping another 2 per cent in May.

The decline has prompted calls for the government to introduce taxpayer-funded incentives for buyers and driven a narrative in the Telegraph and Daily Mail that British car owners’ interest in purchasing EVs is waning."

Furthermore there is renewed worry about the health problems of driving EV.

"There are growing reports of electric car drivers suffering motion sickness, dizziness and nausea from the vehicles' braking and acceleration systems.

And a former Tesla owner has claimed that she experienced nosebleeds, hair loss and 'debilitating' body pains while using the vehicle she purchased in 2021.

While she was not entirely sure the Tesla was at fault, the Georgia resident and said her symptoms disappeared after selling the car.

Tesla owners have had to trade in some models because the air conditioning systems were prone to mold, which can cause asthma-like symptoms.

Tesla has been accused of being the 'worst offender' for causing motion sickness from its one-pedal throttle because they can be 'very jerky and really abrupt,' Ed Kim, president and chief analyst of AutoPacific said.

The value of a used Tesla fell by more than $1,000 on average in the first half of January"

No one seems to want a second-hand EV, their value is now dropping like a stone.

The reality is that personal sales in Britain of EVs have fallen 7%in just one month.

This shows the disaster which happens to EV sales when the government removes buyer incentives, the personal sector has already been removed and the results are obvious, disaster.

This coming year, the remaining supports will be removed for fleet and salary sacrifice EV sales, and the same disaster will happen to them.

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/The-Car-Industry-Misjudges-Consumer-Demand-for-Electric-Vehicles.html

Here is the truth, there is no factual base supporting the view that fleet sales are booming, because the data for fleets and salary sacrifice does not exist.

"It is impossible to tell the significance of salary sacrifice in the overall data as neither the relevant government bodies, the DVLA and HMRC, nor scheme operators, track the data."

"In a statementSMMT chief executive Mike Hawes told City A.M. “Salary sacrifice registrations are not listed separately as there is currently no official way to measure them as neither HMRC, DVLA or scheme operators provide this data.”

In other words, this data is not even collected, so there is no way of knowing if fleet/salary sacrifice EV sales are increasing or decreasing.

Only empty hot air claims that we know this data.

And trying to muddy the picture by dragging in year-old numbers will not fool anyone.

lower prices....results in higher sales...then the competition lowers prices for a similar product........

time will tell ........

when the cost of a Tesla is the same as an equivalent ICE vehicle...watch out

A Tesla with dual motors AWD still in the plus $45,000 for starters....bring the dual motor version down to $40,000...Daddy will by it for their wife/ daughters /sons

the tipping point (EVs more than 50 percent of the market) that already has been reached in China will be reached in the US when AWD EVs are on the market for 30,000 to 35,000. You can bet BYD will open an EV (unionized plant) in the US within the next few years to satisfy the UAW (Mexico will be sooner) and to get around tariffs.  With so few parts in an EV compared to an ICE vehicle ....actual extra costs due to Union Labor will not be significant/. Most of the parts (sub assemblies)  will be made in Mexico ...move across the border for final assembly........Made in America slapped on the car.

Matter of time

Like the evolution from cameras with film to digital cameras...what does a burner phone with a camera cost these days....$50 at most

the costs of taking a photo...peanuts and the cost of maintaining /charging up an EV Peanuts

LOL Your link: "A 2020 Consumer Reports study found that the ownership-cost advantages of EVs were particularly strong for SUVs and pickup trucks, for example."... and I guarantee they are calling Hybrids EV's to make this claim because NO actual EV comes close.

To believe that garbage you have to have your head so far up your arse, you have forgotten what shit smells like.  There is no viable EV PU let alone SUV for sale, let alone at an affordable price currently.  ICE are literally half the cost and can actually FUNCTION as a PU truck or SUV which the EV's cannot.  Oh yea, and their insurance costs less than half.   So no... Link is pure LIE and last I checked it is 2024... not 2020...

Perhaps because they offer way more performance than ICE cars.  Similarly a modern jet fighter flown to its limits will cause more nausea than some old biplane.

They should probably dial back the horsepower on some EVs.  Old people that are used to gas clunkers probably can't properly handle that kind of power.

Most people who drive PU trucks do not work with them, they drive them to office jobs.  Look in the box of most PU trucks you see, no scratches from doing actual work.   They just played with too many Tonka trucks as kids and want to feel like a big man.  Probably the same reason they need to own guns; played with G.I. Joe dolls too much.  Go Joe!

SUVs are just modified minivans...

What percentage of Jeep owners do you imagine drive them off-road like in the commercials?   In reality they drive them in a city to Walmart to buy crap.

some of the highlights....no room for Clunkers in the Chinese market

AlixPartners’ recently published Electric Vehicle Consumer Sentiment Survey indicates China’s EV market, by far the largest in the world, is poised to flourish. Some 97% of 1,000 China-based respondents to our study said their next vehicle purchase is likely to be an EV, compared to 35% in the US and 43% in Europe.

EVs sell in China for the equivalent of $34,400, considerably lower than the $55,242 average selling price in the US.

What is really hurting the demand for EVs is the realization that the secondary market for used EVs has now collapsed in value. That is in contrast to the used fossil fuel car market, which is as strong as ever.

Americans are big car people overall. I think pickups are somewhat of a macho male thing, but I do love my big van because people can't steal my stuff on long trips with lots of belongings or to carry passengers. I live in an agricultural area but I think most farmers use an old truck on the farm and drive around in a newer truck and write it off as a farm expense. Maybe someone could correct me on that.

The little SUV's allow people to avoid the minivan driver stigma but I stick with the Dodge Chrysler minivans because they are the only company that has lay flat seats all the way behind the two front seats. My Nissan van is bigger than about any van aside from the extra long Mercedes. My little three banger Mitsubishi will not be beat price wise until a company starts selling Chinese cars nationwide, or close too it.

Maybe another Domestic or foreign brand would like to sell Mexican assembled Chinese cars under their own nameplate. I like a free market. I remember when people had very few pairs of shoes because they were made in New England and cost far more. There was very little competition for many  products. Competition benefits the consumer. My main concern is that we do not deal with other countries that do not share our values in the way they treat their own population or other countries. That needs to be understood by China.

My bet is one of the big three will lockup with BYD in the US........one way to take over a market (or keep what you have), buy into your competition

and joint venture.......as I do not see any of the Big 3 competing on the low end EVs without partnering with  made in Mexico and China battery tech

and the other quasi US domestic makers (VW, Toyota etc)...........the market is wide open for a No tariff Made (assembled) in the USA EV. The Quasi automakers all will have to find a path forward.....as you can bet EVs in the US will get much cheaper...just who will conquer the low end market (Tesla......hmmmmm overpriced)

with battery prices crashing and batteries getting better the result is cheaper EVs  be it mini cars, sedans , SUVs or light pickups

hard to stop innovation/tech advancements  no matter how hard a country tries to block market access

as for China......their one party way......will it sure is not working in the real estate business these days nor in stemming the decline in population...China needs to have an open border policy with all the poor countries of the world otherwise it is doomed to be a retirement state.......Lots of people in dire poverty around the globe and lots of new empty apartments in China........somebody has to assemble all of the China Trinkets ,cheap EVs and install the billions upon billiions of solar panels (Ex top pay coal miners do not make good assembly line workers....pay sucks)

China's population is shrinking for the first time in 60 years | World Economic Forum
