lexington green + 24 LG January 3 (edited)   Norway set yet another record in electric vehicle (EV) market share in 2024, as nine out of ten new passenger car sales were battery EVs, data from the Norwegian Road Federation OFV showed on Thursday. A total of 88.9% of all new passenger car sales were battery EVs, up from 82.4% in 2023, according to the data. Tesla Model Y was the best-selling car in Norway last year, followed by Tesla Model 3, Volvo EX30, Volkswagen ID.4, and Toyota bZ4X. https://oilprice.com/Latest-Energy-News/World-News/89-of-New-Cars-Sold-in-Norway-Last-Year-Were-EVs.html  Edited January 3 by lexington green

Michael Sanches + 190 January 4 Here in the Midwest, we are starting a 7 day period of daily highs from 10 - 20 degrees Farenheit. EV owners who don't have home charging should have a lot of fun.
Michael Sanches + 190 January 4 (edited) A Chevrolet Camaro (3.6 litre V6) is over 156,000 dollars here in Norway (if I were to import). Why? Value-added tax = 9,000 dollars Tax for the weight of the car = 15,000 dollars Engine tax (horepowers mostly) = 27,000 dollars CO2 tax = 72,000 dollars N0x-tax (nitrogen oxide) = 1000 dollars First-time registration (to get license plates, don't know what this is called in us) = 115,000 dollars In case you want-to-scrap-your-car-tax = 400 dollars Total taxes for a Chevrolet Camarao V6? 125,000 dollars. This does not, of course, include shipping, insurance, gas, so on. EV's are exempt from taxes, except for the weight tax. I think EV sales would explode in the USA if the government put a $110,000 tax on ICE vehicles. Michael Sanches + 190 January 4 Read an interesting article on range anxiety. The anxiety is not so much from worrying about driving too far on a charge. It is more from our experience of just realizing our phone/tablet/laptop is dead or close to dead because we got distracted and forgot to charge it. Not a worry for those who have never done this. But, for the rest of us who have the occasional brain fart, it is a negative inducement to go EV.

But, for the rest of us who have the occasional brain fart, it is a negative inducement to go EV. If you wish to compare EVs to cell phones you should have noticed the vast improvement in performance over time. My first smart phone was an HTC desire HD. It was slow and the battery lasted like 3 hours if you were actually playing on it. Fast forward to now and my Samsung S23+ can easily last all day while also being much more powerful. Second point is "brain farts" are not restricted to EV's. I have neglected to "recharge" my ICE car more than once in my life. Jerry cans exist.

I live in the north where people plug in block heaters that don't even charge the battery. Also most everyone carries booster cables in the trunk because lead acid batteries suck in the cold. As for charging stations they are everywhere here now. All hotels, most shopping malls, etc. have them. Edited January 4 by TailingsPond

No they will not. Tesla will undercut its competitors who need that incentive. Tesla has way more money than its EV (and fossil) competitors - they have what is called a "war chest."  Crush the competition at a loss or just use greater manufacturing efficiency. How stupid do you have to be that Trump will do something that Musk doesn't want? Stop pretending you know anything about business or the economy. How is your "soaring" oil price prediction going? You are apparently very disappointed that you did not obtain an economics degree from a prominent department, like I did. Too bad. It is clear that the growth in EV sales has collapsed, and with the new changes in government policies removing the incentives for any rational person to buy an EV, much worse is in store for you and your agenda going forward. You may borrow my handkerchief again and weep some more. You made your choice and it failed. Edited 2 hours ago by Ecocharger
