In the context in which you wrote.... As former Secretary of Defense Bob Gates said in 2010, the Saudis “want to fight the Iranians to the last American”. So, everything is possible, including Israel in all of this.

If this is the work of the Saudis, are the Saudis waking up to the realization of which countries they need more?  Does the news of American oil independence, even though it is disputable how accurate that is, concern them?  Are they asking themselves what will happen to the entire region if President Trump orders the American military out of the region to let the locals determine their own fates?  Hmmmm.

I would suggest the rantings of this fellow are intended for internal consumption.  As the Deputy Head of the Revolutionary Guards, his men were demonstrably impotent to stop the attack, which seems to have gone on for some time, with plenty of casualties. He looks bad.  So the response is classic politics.  It reminds me of Justin Trudeau after Donald Trump did the humiliation thing at Quebec City, going to that press conference and saying "We are nice people but will  not stand for being humiliated," a quote which got back to Trump sitting on his airplane  (and the resultant threats of a 25% auto tariff) in more thin-skinned tit-for-tat.  

But let's go beyond all that: is there any evidence of outsiders getting involved in this murder spree?  Unlikely.  There are factions inside Iran that totally loathe each other. they don't need outside helpers to pick up guns and start a shooting spree. That pattern is found in other Middle East countries, including the murder of Anwar Sadat of Egypt during that military victory parade. Therein, a cell of soldiers belonging to Egyptian Islamic Jihad threw grenades and fired into the Presidential Stand, hitting and killing President Sadat and a dozen others.  The shooters were seized and later shot dead by firing squad.  The Middle East tends to be a bit of a rough neighborhood.

Iran blames everything on the US, Saudi Arabia and Israel.  It is easier for Iranian politicians to blame big bad Israel, Saudi Arabia and the USA  than to admit that these blood thirsty terrorists were born and raised in Iran. 

As for the threats Iran made they are basically going to support the same old terrorists groups that they already support.  This will change nothing.

It is sad that Iran with its rich history and struggling people has such a messed up and crazy government.

I'm finally getting to the point of no longer believing the people of Iran are any better than their leaders.  Better people will "take it" for a while, maybe even for a generation, but better people either prevail after enough bullshit, or they are not better people.  Of course that is just my opinion; I may be wrong.
