John at Fathom + 2 JM September 26, 2018 The Port of Corpus Christie is looking to dredge the ports channel deeper to allow VLCC's to move 300,00 barrels at a time from the port. Transfigura has proposed an offshore oil loading facility off Port Aransas similar to the LOOP platform. The POCC is attempting to block this from happening. Updates welcome.
Refman + 207 GN September 26, 2018 I think you've misquoted some figures, as VLCCs carry 2 million barrels, and the Port of Corpus Christi can already accommodate vessels up to 1 million barrels. Also when you talk about the Port of Corpus Christi you need to specify which part. The inner harbor, which is past the harbor bridge is limited on vessel size due to a 45 foot draft and also the current bridge which restricts vessel taller than 140 feet from entering. The part of the port that extends from outside the bridge to Port Aransas is not restricted by bridges, but still has only a 45 foot draft. They are currently dredging the channel to 55 feet to help bring in larger ships, but for VLCCs to enter they will need to dredge to 75 feet.
