damirUSBiH + 327 DD October 1, 2018 Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard said Monday that it launched ballistic missiles into eastern Syria, targeting militants the force blames for a recent attack on a military parade. The launch was the Islamic Republic’s second such missile attack on Syria in over a year. Iranian state television and the state-run IRNA news agency said the attacks “killed and wounded” militants in Syria, without elaborating. Syrian state media did not immediately acknowledge the strike. The TV aired footage of one of its reporters standing by as one of the missiles was launched, identifying the area as being in Iran’s western province of Kermanshah. A state TV-aired graphic suggested the missiles flew over central Iraq near the city of Tikrit before landing near the city of Abu Kamal, in the far southeast of Syria. One missile shown on state television bore the slogans “Death to America, Death to Israel, Death to Al Saud,” referring to Saudi Arabia’s ruling family. Petar + 76 PP October 1, 2018 That's probably 70-year-old technology they're showing off with. Their obsession with these missiles was formed during the Iran-Iraq war, when they needed to demonstrate some ability to strike back at enemy cities after their air force had become too incapacitated to do it. jpZelabal + 63 jj October 1, 2018 (edited) So, Iran's IRGC launched 6 missiles targeting the Syria, more specific ISIS. I saw in few reports that one of these missiles landed near Kermanshah and the other near Javanrood(Iranian teritory- Western Iran) This is a crime that is targeted at its own people. Wrong. Iranians have now demonstrated their power-projection capability with SSMs. And no one can object to that as long the target is ISIS. But I think the real intended audience is completely different.
rainman + 263 October 1, 2018 Yep. 850 kms missiles are a problem. I also think that the intended message of this strike was to demonstrate long-range conventional deterrence. Bad...
pinto + 293 PZ October 1, 2018 There is a high possibility with the US base being so close. US forces may have been caught in the crossfire. Big escalation may be coming.
Bill Simpson + 7 B October 2, 2018 They missed. At least one landed inside Iran, and the rest probably landed in the desert of Syria. Launching such missiles is one reason why most experts say that the first nuclear war will probably start accidentally. Nuclear bombs are bad enough. But putting them on missiles is asking for an accidental nuclear war. There isn't enough time to discover what is really happening, especially when flight time is only a few minutes.
