Brian W + 78 BW October 24, 2018 Things are moving fast for Tesla’s Gigafactory 3 project. In a new regulatory filing in China, Tesla revealed its plan to produce two models in its first phase project at its new Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai. The new factory aims to manufacture Model 3 and Model Y cars, with annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles, according to a filing by the environmental assessment firm conducting a feasibility study for the project.
CMOP + 227 October 24, 2018 This is huge. Shanghai secured. There was no doubt they would build the Model 3. A bit surprised they'd start with the Model Y. I'd figure the Model S - but I guess if you're rich you don't mind getting one sent from the USA. Let's see how their production schedules run - if it's anything like the one's in USA - there might be a problem. They mention they want to ramp up to over 500k annually. We'll see if this pans out. Adam Varga + 123 AV October 25, 2018 (edited) If this is true then Tesla must plan on having a wide variety of options for the model Y in order to have it also hit that higher luxury SUV segment in China. Edited October 25, 2018 by Adam Varga
BlackTortoise + 103 CM October 25, 2018 Tesla said its Chinese Gigafactory will sell only to domestic customers. That probably means that Gf 1 should support North America.
Stormysaga + 62 AB October 25, 2018 This is a great play for Tesla. Ford has already stopped the Focus in China so if Musk can produce a cheap and compact car he can take over the market. Now if we can just get you to act your age and start running your tweets past legal first, everything will be just fine.
