Nothing in the above news article discusses the effects of injecting CO2 into depleted oil reservoirs. This discovery adds credibility to the idea that underground CO2 accumulations are subject to conversion to methane by microbes if they have a supply of iron sulfides, hydrogen sulfide, dead plant matter, or other organic material - which may include unrecovered oil.
