COP24 conference in Poland's coal capital

Recommended Posts

Representatives of almost all the countries on the planet are gathering in Katowice, Poland, for the 24th Conference of the Parties (COP24) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). They will set the course for action on climate change by discussing the implementation plan for the 2015 Paris Agreement which aims to coordinate international effort to halt warming at 1.5°C.

The UFO-shaped building hosting the conference has been built on the site of a former coal mine.

Katowice is capital city of polish coal mining in Silesia region. Its a little symbolic that this is a host  city for this event  Silesia  is one of biggest coal regions in Europe= that was a disputed territory between Poland and Germany in 20th century exacly because of coal resources.
