Tom Kirkman + 8,860 January 7, 2019 For a long time, I was generally under the impression that the years long international conflict in Syria was actually all about competing international interests in running a gas pipeline squarely through Syria. Recently I ran across a compilation of headlines, implying that the Syria conflict was less about a battle between U.S. and Russia for competing gas pipeline through Syria, and more about control by an Isaeli company called Genie Oil & Gas, who were attempting to protect their oil & gas interests in Israeli-controlled Golan Heights, which was unilaterally annexed from Syria. Today, here is a Bloomberg article: Netanyahu Raises Golan Heights Sovereignty During Bolton Visit Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants to convince Washington of the importance of global recognition for Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights as part of U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton’s trip to Israel. Netanyahu said he has raised the issue with President Donald Trump and hopes to impress it upon Bolton on Monday during a visit -- weather permitting -- to the country’s northeastern region, which Israel captured from Syria during the 1967 Middle East war. Israel unilaterally annexed the Golan Heights in 1981, a move that wasn’t recognized internationally. The U.S. hasn’t recognized Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights, but in November for the first time the U.S. said it planned to vote against a United Nations resolution calling for Israel to end its occupation of the area. 1

Illurion + 894 IG January 7, 2019 Real Heavy hitters on that committee. I too have heard mostly that the Syrian war was an oil proxy fight, etc, but this adds a new wrinkle to the issue. As for the GOLAN HEIGHTS, it must stay in Israeli hands, as it leaves all of Israel vulnerable. The USA should recognize Israeli sovereignty, regardless of whether there is a company with ulterior motives.
