Happy Dance and Popcorn time !

This Executive Order by Trump, combined with $70 oil [Brent] this week, is putting a huge grin on my face : )

The inevitable meltdown and hyperbolic over-reaction frenzy of the "Keep Oil & Gas In The Ground Forever" mob and the "Church of Global Warming" mob should be mightily amusing to watch.

Life is good these days !

Trump’s Executive Order Is A Gamechanger For Oil Shipping

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order seeking to limit states’ powers in the approval or rejection of new oil and gas pipeline projects.

... Now, President Trump wants to clip states’ wings in the department of infrastructure project approvals. Under the Clean Water Act, states can refuse to approve and issue a permit for a pipeline project even if it is approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission if the authorities suspect it could harm the quality of water in the state.

According to Republican legislators, governors have been abusing this power to block projects that will not have an adverse impact on water quality but would be beneficial for oil and gas production.

The order also extends to LNG export terminals and regulation that bans the transportation of the superchilled fuel by train.

What's funny about this is states who refuse to acknowledge the damage they've done to flowing rivers that flow Out of their states are the same ones who are screaming bloody murder now. Hoisted on their own petards comes to mind, but no one knows what a petard is anymore.

Kind of like XKL and Line 3 which even though they have approval have been stuck in the courts by left wing funded tree huggers. What a sham! Same thing with the Transmountain pipeline expansion which will carry crude from Alberta to BC coast. We need faster approval of these projects. Right now, there is too many people involved in the process and must be streamlined!

petard

 noun
pe· tard | \ pə-ˈtär(d)  \

Definition of petard

1: a case containing an explosive to break down a door or gate or breach a wall
2: a firework that explodes with a loud report

Did You Know?

Aside from historical references to siege warfare, and occasional contemporary references to fireworks, "petard" is almost always encountered in variations of the phrase hoist with one's own petard, meaning "victimized or hurt by one's own scheme." The phrase comes from Shakespeare's Hamlet: "For 'tis the sport to have the enginer / Hoist with his own petar." "Hoist" in this case is the past participle of the verb hoise, meaning "to lift or raise," and "petar(d)" refers to an explosive device used in siege warfare. Hamlet uses the example of the engineer (the person who sets the explosive device) being blown into the air by his own device as a metaphor for those who schemed against Hamlet being undone by their own schemes. The phrase has endured, even if its literal meaning has largely been forgotten.

Thanks, I already knew this.

Clearly, my lame attempt at an obtusely oblique joke missed its mark.

Sometimes my attempts at humor are disastrously off target.  Oh well...

^ See, it's a trap...

But, just way too oblique and off tangent for the old 'tarp' joke...

Never mind, I'll just shut up now, and go back to happy dancing : )

Going on an off - topic happy rant for a bit ... and will return to our regularly scheduled blatherings after this happy little detour.

I'm really not joking about my happy dance.  I'm bordering on manic, walking around with a face-splitting grin lately.  Some people on the sidewalk burst out in spontaneous smiling when they see my overtly obvious exuberance and enthusiasm the last few days.  This has been a watershed week so far for me, and the highlight is still coming on Saturday.

Here's what's been going on with me, both in Oil & Gas and personal.

1) This morning I finally broke my 12 day fast. Nothing to eat for 12 days.  This fasting was not for dieting, although significant fat loss was a nice side effect.  The 12 day fast was for autophagy.

  • Autophagy is the process of recycling old worn out cells during fasting and starvation. It’s an important component of anti-aging and longevity seen in caloric restriction. Fasting is the most effective way of increasing autophagy.

It took me around 6 hours this morning to slowly, carefully, break my fast, to get my body re-oriented to digesting food.

I feel healthier than I have in decades.  Like a thorough Spring Cleaning for my entire body.

More about fasting and autophagy here, here, and here for anyone curious.

And a much easier 3 day fast is here for anyone interested.

It took me a long time to properly prepare for this 12 day fast, and it was very much worth it.  I'll do it again in another 6 months or so, this was seriously amazing.

2) On Sunday, I walked 20 miles.  This was vigorous walking, with 1 kilo weights on each wrist and ankle.  I've been walking around 15 miles on Saturdays and Sundays for a while, but upped the levels.  The endorphins from the extended vigorous exercise were amazing.  Classic "Runner's High" from pushing hard for hours.

I used to be a good competitive runner in High School and University.  My typical daily workout was to run 10 miles in under 60 minutes, rain or sun, sleet or snow.

These days, arthritis prohibits me from running, the impact on my ankles, knees and hips is far too painful.  But I can still walk vigorously, at 12 minutes per mile, for hours, with 4 kg weights for added resistance.

Oh, and I walked that 20 miles on the 10th day of my fasting.  And felt absolutely wonderful and vibrantly alive and bursting with energy after finishing that 20 miles.  I haven't pushed that hard and that long in decades.  I started at 4:00 am and finished at 8:15 am (don't try doing this in tropical sun, but early morning is still pretty cool).

3) Brent Oil is back at $70.

You have read my endless conments about my opinion that $70 Oil [Brent] is the magical Goldilocks price that has all sorts of global benefits.

Well, $70 Oil finally arrived again this week.  Nuff said.  < Happy Dance >

4) Trump decides to stick it to the Oil Pipeline Haters crowd.  Which I've already yammered on about in this thread.  Amuses me endlessly.  Trump is a master Troll.

5) This Saturday, I will be the featured opening speaker at the Sarawak Oil & Gas Seminar Seminar & Exhibition.  The organizers asked me to kick off the Seminar by giving me 90 minutes to shoot my mouth off on stage about international Oil & Gas, Malaysia O&G, and specifically Sarawak O&G.

I plan to have blast.  Really, I am going to have a heckuva lotta fun being (mostly) no holds barred about the Commercial and Political aspects of Sarawak Oil & Gas, and I plan to harpoon some sacred cows.  Petronas plans to have a rebuttal, which I encourage.  Open and vigorous debate is sorely needed in Malaysia Oil & Gas.

I promised the organizers that I would behave.  So I will have to harpoon some sacred cows very politely 😁

Thanks for the links on fasting. I have been working on intermittent fasting for quite a while with some success. I eat from 11:30 to 7:30 only. With a few exceptions. I will have to study a lot more about fasting since you are a true believer. I would love the feeling of exhilaration.

I hope you will provide us with a link to your speech on youtube or whatever. source!

If the organizers video this and make it public, I'll happily provide any link to YouTube.

You can message me separately about fasting, I can give you more links.

What's the Safest way to move Oil and Gas? A pipeline!  Why Extreme Environmentalist would want Oil and especially LNG moving around the country on rail or (God Forbid) Tanker Trucks is beyond me.  Fossil Fuels will get to market, might as well get there Safely.  If the Canadians want to lose a couple of Dollars a Barrel and not pipe it B.C. they can pipe it to the Gulf Coast where our Refineries will happily buy it on the cheap.  Now if they can just move that Damn Ogallala Aquifer...

Great. Now trash the JONES ACT! (I know -- it's just barely even tangentially related.) Via NYP (https://nypost.com/2019/04/07/a-better-way-to-unclog-nyc-streets-repeal-the-jones-act/):

The law mandates that domestic carriers use US-built ships, which are up to eight times more expensive than those built in foreign shipyards. A recently christened Jones Act containership, for example, featured a price tag $50 million higher than a South Korean-built containership with six times greater cargo capacity than the domestic one.

Exorbitant waterborne rates push cargo onto congested US highways and railways. That, in turn, boosts demand for truck and rail transport, which means higher transport costs for businesses that move merchandise to retail outlets, inventory to warehouses and intermediate goods to manufacturing facilities.

Those inflated freight expenses increase the costs of production for US manufacturers and the cost of living for US families. The diversion of cargo onto our highways worsens an already bad congestion problem. New Yorkers know this side effect of the Jones Act all too well. Waterborne-freight restrictions aren’t the only cause of bad traffic in congested areas, but they’re an important factor.

The costs don’t end there. The Jones Act also deters Americans from buying US-made products....

Good luck with that.  Jones Act is so entrenched with so many vested interests, it seems unlikely for it to go away any time soon.  Intractable.  There is lower hanging fruit that can probably be pursued more easily than trying to fix the outdated Jones Act.

Maybe, giving an exemption for having a 30-50% mix of foreign shipyard built vessels that meet the US building and safety codes ad features?

Good idea.  Jones Act "100% local content only" for shipping has become obsolete.  What was appropriate umpteen decades ago is not exactly valid today.

For example, even Iraq's oil & gas excessively restrictive "local content" rules only mandate 90% local, not 100%.

Allowing Korea, for example, to build a few ships to meet U.S. specs would be a good idea.  Competition helps weed out gross corruption and weed out a bit of moribund status quo.

I had a blast speaking at the Sarawak Oil & Gas Seminar.  Harpooned a few sacred cows as politely as possible and got some pretty strong reactions from the audience, both agreeing and disagreeing with me.  Mostly agreeing.

As I really started to get rolling, the microphones kept mysteriously cutting out.  Eventually all 3 microphones cut out.  So I kept on, amused, speaking really  l o u d l y   until the microphones mysteriously started (mostly) working again.

I told the audience at the beginning to feel free to video this on their phones, because I fully expected the media to censor my words.

Afterwards, I heard that a video of this is being shared on WhatsApp, but I haven't seen it yet.  Maybe someone will post it on YouTube soon.

It was a fun day, really winding up the crowd with information and observations and opinions, and eliciting a fews audible gasps from the audience  : )

Oh, and a few sourpusses got up and walked out because they didn't like some the words which I said s-l-o-w-l-y and clearly, twice, so that I couldn't possibly be misquoted.

Amusing.

All in all, the Sarawak Oil & Gas Seminar and Exhibition this weekend was a roaring success, in my opinion.  Definitely fun : )

Tom, sounds like you had a blast! Still levitating? Your happiness is contagious. Looks like today will be another great day and we voted the socialists out of Alberta last night.

Question to all: The Russians have been very vocal as of late in regards to dropping curtailment. They'd be on Oprah praising more output if they had a chance. Do you think Russia is talking about increasing production leading up to Iran waiver decision to try and game Trumps outcome?
