Marina Schwarz + 1,576 January 18, 2018 The world's biggest cobalt producer is a very unstable place at the moment and the situation will likely continue deteriorating just as demand for cobalt is rising. Protests, militants, the works.
Kate Turlington + 44 KT January 19, 2018 That's DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo) just in case anyone gets confused. The 'other' Congo is rich in oil and gunning to join OPEC, and a new oilfield, Moho Nord, is billed as having production potential of 117 million barrels per year. Seleskya + 50 AS January 19, 2018 Re DR Congo, interesting to watch the cobalt developments here. The fact that major companies are coming under a lot of pressure to stop sourcing 'blood cobalt' from DRC is leaving a gap in the supply chain that represents a great opportunity for new suppliers. It's a pretty big gap when you consider that some 60% of the world's cobalt supply currently comes from DRC.
Marina Schwarz + 1,576 January 22, 2018 Yep. Should be interesting to see what happens. Or they'll start looking for cobalt alternatives.
