Will be interesting to see who concurs.

Boat + 1,324 RG August 5, 2019 If anybody has a stake in the Middle East it’s Asia. They buy 75% of the oil sold in that powder keg. Germany on the other hand is tied to Russian oil and nat gas. Japan, S Korea and India are natural fits for oil security there.
DocManfred + 42 MD August 5, 2019 Germany is not tied to Russian oil & gas. Germany`s primary engergy consumption in 2018 was 12,900 Petajoule, 34% came from crude oil, 24% from natural gas. In 2017 33% of the crude oil imported came from Russia, 10% from Norway, 8 % from UK, the remaining 49% from 21 countries including US. 40% of the natural gas consumed in Germany came from Russia, 29% from Netherlands, 21 % from Norway. 7% were produced in Germany, 3 % come from other countries. Out of its primary energy consumption Germany`s energy dependency on Russia was (33% out of 34%) = ca. 11% for crude oil and (40% out of 24%) = 10 % for natural gas. Russia has a significant market share as an energy supplier in Germany but Germany is not tied to Russian oil & gas. There are many alternatives and US is gaining more and more market share. However Russian oil and gas are very competitive due to supply via pipelines. Yep - made this point before. if you look at the flows it should be China, Japan and Korea playing World Policeman here not the usual USA and UK (mugs) In Germany's why do you think they are keen for the UK to stay in the EU? UK forces (tab picked up by UK taxpayer) get to do the EU's bidding. But yes I get your point on Russia.
DocManfred + 42 MD August 5, 2019 People in UK and Germany have a similar mind-set concerning market liberalism, performance and market oriented economy and global trade. Although German economy is more social. This is in contrast to some more socialism-oriented countries in southern Europe.
