How Commercially Viable is Desalination Tech Now?

Recommended Posts

In reading about all the cities facing major water crisis, I'm wondering how far we REALLY are in the desalination tech game...it used to be a pipe dream, but now I think it is being used to some success in certain places, but it's hard to get a handle on.

Definitely something worth tracking further, especially for investment potential. I know they have been doing it in Melbourne, one of the 'crisis' cities, but I don't know the exact process.

Are they commercially viable? Well, that entirely depends on where you are. If you're in Cape Town and you'll be completely out of water then, yes--anything's commercially viable when there's no other option. It's not competing with anything because there won't be any water at all.
