PARIS (Reuters) - Environmental activists daubed the Louvre’s glass pyramid with thick molasses on Friday in protest at what they said were the environmentally-damaging activities of museum sponsor Total, a multinational oil and gas company. Clad in black, the activists belonging to “Liberons le Louvre” (Let’s Free the Louvre) plastered dirty hand-prints over the museum’s famed 70-foot-high glass-and-steel pyramid, a much-loved Paris landmark, as tourists gazed on.

Total has been a Louvre sponsor in past years, the museum said on its website, including support for renovations to the Apollo Gallery and the creation of an Islamic arts department. They dipped their hands into bags of molasses - a black treacle that results from refining sugar cane - before smearing it over the structure to denounce what they called “the dirty hands” of Total.

 “The handprints on the Pyramid can be cleaned away easily, whereas the environmental footprint left by Total is not as easy to clean”, said Victoire, a member of the collective. Another member, Kester Lovelse, told Reuters: “A cultural institution should not be receiving money from a multinational company that continues to endanger the climate, pollute the climate and leave such a dirty environmental footprint on the earth.”

“Even if we are not the main patron of the Louvre, we are proud to support the initiatives of this emblematic institution,” Total said in a statement to Reuters.

Until you become Amish, I have no time for this hypocrisy. And even if you are, it gives you no right to vandalise a global landmark. You can just say oil plays no part in your life.

Hundreds were protesting global warming in Calgary yesterday, many were students who were encouraged by their teachers to attend (according to the students attending) we had some snow yesterday even thought the historical average daytime high is +15 degrees C.  This videos shows them protesting with their single use plastics from places like Starbucks.  Amazing these protesters/students still don't understand what the oil sector provided to Alberta and they protest against the hand that feeds them.

 It only got to 4.3C yesterday in Calgary yesterday.  It is -3C right now with a high of -1C today and we are expected to get snow today and tomorrow with a low of -10C on Monday nights forecast.

Exactly, it is a paid for agenda.  I'd love to know how much she is being paid she is for her activism.  The green movement is big business that can't get by without HUGE tax payer subsidies and the only way they can get those is to demonize the oil industry so that tax payers feel it is necessary.  

It is absolutely pathetic how they are using a mentally ill teenager for their cause now and many feel it is her parents that stole her dreams.  Unfortunately the schools now teach kids like her that protesting about climate change is good and it is ok to miss class to protest.

It's funny but also really sad. The kid on the far right is barely old enough to even say climate 'change' , let alone know what it means. They had to change from global warming to 'climate change' as they got confused which way it's going.

It is sad when you think that these kids are being indoctrinated at such a young age and used for political purposes. 

I could definitely see wanting to cut back on actual pollution like in China.  That is what they should be focusing on, not carbon dioxide.    They should switch to natural gas power plants instead of coal, that would cut down on a lot of their air pollution/smog.   The only person I know of that can apparently see carbon dioxide is Greta.

 I'd bet that many of the global warming activists would like to eliminate carbon dioxide completely or bring it down to unsafe levels where plants are stressed and will no longer be able to support life.

Apparently the atmospheric carbon dioxide levels were 5 times higher when the dinosaurs were alive than what they are today.

  I would like to see oil companies find ways to put better scrubbers or filters on what gets vented into the atmosphere to reduce smog.  Having worked in some of these plants and refineries they do smell bad and I am sure that is unhealthy and you can see a haze in the air around them.  I don't know if it is possible, but it would be nice. Some can even make your eyes water just driving past them.

It's happening 1 year before a US election. The left/Democrats like to sell themselves of the party of the people, they are the only ones who can advocate for minorities or talk about the climate....they are much more intelligent than we give them credit for. I find using children for propaganda (like your video) to be a special kind of disgusting...I want children to enjoy their childhoods and their education should be about discovery and learning to figure things out for themselves not to be indoctrinated at the age of 12. I  am seriously having to think about contacting my daughters school because her geography class has been teaching this garbage for over a year and it's starting to get annoying...what about glaciers and volcanoes?

Being a Christian I've always noticed people (clearly not religious) using OMG and Jesus's name in vein and even on this forum relating anything bad to "like religious beliefs" (even tho it's the atheists who are all claiming that climate change will end time vs Jesus returning when the last beilever  is saved or ALA being sovereign in all matters if your Muslim) ... back to the point so while watching movies or listening to music or reading posts just keep a tally of religious and now climate change references  it's crazy.  All you hear is: OMG! Climate change is EVOLVING! With swearing inserted at random .... that's the world I live in. 

And a story to wash out my annoying to you religious stuffs: recently attended a baby shower themed "save the turtles" the kicker was plastic reusable straws that got thrown away within the week and due to number of guests they needed to buy water but sharing cups is gross so ya you guessed it one time use plastic water bottles that come in a plastic case ... cant run from plastic !

I understand about wanting to avoid insults or mockery but mockery was the most effective way of changing things back in 2016 but here we are again on the backfoot trying to reclaim ground and so the same tactics that worked so well (especially for the Trump campaign) are all we've got....but rather than go after a mentaly ill 16 year old we should be going after the people that back her.

2020 is going to be a crazy year, Trump on the ropes & Brexit stalled...I didn't see any of this coming a few years back, I knew we'd win and thought we'd see normality restored shortly after!

It is happening here in Canada now as well.  We are in the middle of our federal election and Trudeau just met with Greta in Montreal.  She scolded him about the climate and he agreed with her.  Meanwhile he flies all over the world on vacations.

The guy probably flies more than an Air Canada pilot.
