How did California get to this point? Southern California often has outages also. Ayn Rand predicted that power outages and all types of shortages would take place as statism took over. 

Why haven't we switched to underground power lines?

Natural gas turbines could provide localized power grids. 

We need redundant power supplies of all kinds.

These people are so brainwashed/brain dead that they can't understand why they can't keep the power on in their state. They have regulated the crap out of the utility companies so badly that they can't understand that their local government has regulated them out of the business. the lawsuit that was slapped against the electric utility has put them in bankruptcy now. So the power shortages sucked the utilities bank account dry and the state has yet to fully reimburse them for the actual cost of the power they had to but from other states to keep the lights on, and this was what, 2001? I remember that they were whining then about the brown outs and black outs, and they were insisting that Texas was needing to fire up those old coal plants and make them electricity. We told them were they could stick that idea quick. They have shut down their power generating stations even though they know they don't have replacements online yet so they are suffering for their stupidity. Now genius cities like Berkley are starting new ordinances that won't even allow natural gas into new structures, natural gas!! They could easily build new plants running off of gas and solve their problem, but they aren't smart enough to see that now. They have been in trouble for that long and it is now even worse, the utility is now out of money after being sued, so how can they afford to take all those lines and bury them away for safe keeping now? California is on a downward spiral and they are nearing the apex of the funnel, so it will get worse and worse for them, and all because of the bureaucracy trying to meddle with something that was working. And doing the "sanctuary cities" and losing federal funding to help with law enforcement agencies across the state is helping out a lot too.....They have done this to themselves.....

That woman said if it saves a life ‘it’s worth it’. How about if it costs a life due to lack of electrical power (medical equipment, traffic lights, safety equipment, etc....).

Face it, this type of weather and wildfires have been the norm in California for decades. This is a reaction to the insane policies in California fostered by a liberal mentality without giving thought to the financial, social and material costs associated with these policies.

As previously stated, California did this to themselves.

The fact of the matter is, they are doing this to themselves. They have no one else to blame. When California goes dark permanently maybe some of them will wake up and start taking affirmative action. They act like they have the right to DEMAND power, but they don't understand that they can be cut off. No one is forced to sell to them. It is about time that these mfg's started telling them to screw off, they do not have to conform to every little stupid law they come up with and just stop selling to them. Period. When they can't get cars or gasoline or electricity then maybe they'll think about all the regulations they have been jamming down everyone's throats for so many years. People will still buy cars and such, just not in california, they'll get the products they need from out of state and bring them in. No tax dollars created for them either. Just like prop 65, everything has to be labeled "special" just for cali, tell them to screw off, don't comply and let them wallow in their suffering and do without.

Funny thing about that is, New York is trying to catch up with California. I was reading yesterday that they just passed into law an ordinance that makes it illegal to call someone an "illegal alien" and if you get caught they slap you with a fine. Ohhhhhh, and another blackout looming ahead for this weekend. There is another fundamental problem with a lot of southern cali,I noticed it on my many trips out there, it really is very arid, they are actually living in a desert. Or almost a desert. Maybe that would be why they are so susceptible to all the wildfires.......But right now mid state and northern are being beat up by the power outages. Hmmmmm. Makes you wonder how much longer the Mom and Pop businesses will be able to survive with these two to three day blackouts killing their businesses. Natural gas would mean they could at least have hot water and cook on a gas stove, but pretty soon there will be a large populace in the Berkley area that won't even be able to do that.

Sadly I have to report that I have recently figured out that my son is an official libtard. Power restored this evening approximately 7:05pm. Blackout ensued Saturday 7pm. 

No sooner than it came back on, pg&e issued this message 20 minutes later at 7:25pm

They are calling for another blackout thursday that could last 4-5 days. This is absolutely insane.
