Diplomacy On Display - Dialogue between N and S Korea

Recommended Posts

Sister of North Korea leader Kim Jong Un delivered personal letter from Kim to South Korea's Moon inviting him to North Korea - Blue House! After 2007. it could be first meeting between leaders of two countries. Maybe, big step  for a safer future.

Kim Jong Un doesn’t want peace as much as he wants South Korea’s resources and the dismantling of their defenses

Still a long way to go before they trust each other I think. Too early for big conclusion.

Of course. But, you could never be sure with regime from NK. Maybe, another attempt by Pyongyang to buy time to complete its nukes. It tried to buy time several times, and it successfully developed its nukes and missile tech to current level...

The fact that North and South Korea can light the torch together and have a unified flag is amazing. And, it's a great platform for next step in their relationship

As long as we have a dialog we can solve issues. But remember in my country, Bosnia, we have learned from Slobodan Milosevic and Serbia that you can talk and shoot at the same time. It was an expensive lesson with lots of blood and innocent victims.

Moon Jae-in had better take an army of bodyguards on his trip north.

Perhaps the new agenda should include economic development and prosperity for the region, instead of flexing muscles and hoping that armies will fight your battles and help to uphold the ego of those who claim to have the interest at heart of their constituencies.

This "normalization" of North Korea is truly strange. While Kim Jong Un’s sister and their cheerleaders are enjoying themselves in South Korea, many North Koreans are starving to death and being tortured in work camps.

Let's be honest here, anything that encourages peace is a good thing but here we have a young dictator who clearly lives power. How could this ever work?

That’s what beyond borders sports can do. Let peace prevail and put an end to hate.

North Korea is the most brutal and oppressive regime in the world. Any piece on the country or their participation in the Olympics effectively serving as propaganda for the regime.

If we were the ruler of a small insecure country facing 40,000 heavily armed troops from the most powerful country in the world on our border whose President was threatening to blow us off of the face of the earth, wouldn’t we want a weapon that would deter them from attacking us?  Wouldn’t such fear bring out the worst in us?  If sports, whether ping pong or hockey, can open the way to dialogue, and reduce fear and tension, they can help to move Korea in the right direction.  That direction might ultimately lead to the end of the war, a staged withdrawal of US troops, war planes and rockets mirroring the dismantling of NK’s nuclear arsenal and development capacity, and a reopening of commercial and humanitarian programs.  Where dictatorships can no longer use the excuse of such fear, they ultimately fall from within.

"I hope the day we become one comes soon and hope to see all your friendly faces in Pyongyang." / message from Kim's sister. She returns to the North Korea .

This is called: Love thy Neighbor. If everyone takes care of only 1 person: their own neighbor then the World will be filled with Peace. We don't have to worry about the entire world. We only have to take care of our own neighbor..

That's certainly a nice thought. It's probably giving the Olympics a bit too much credit, but nice thought nonetheless. And welcome to our humble community, @WaytoPeace! Nice to have you onboard.
