Compact, in this case, means about the size of a freight container. If it can work, it could be scaled for large land based plants. No radioactive waste is produced. What objections would arise to stop development? How would it change the renewable and fossil fuel industries? How long will it take to realize, if it is a doable technology? How does this compare to the dream of thorium reactors? RCW

We already have a very good fusion reactor - it just happens to be about 150 million Km away.

Haven't looked at this article yet, but fusion energy is definately worth investing in. There's something, that if realised on scale and economically, could quickly take care of all electricity generation everywhere, cut emissions, and launch human kind into an all new "fusion age".

I had a chance to look through this some more and wade through a little more technical stuff on these vs the current designs. This seems very interesting, basically an electromagnetic vortex that enables and contains the reaction. I'll be curious to see who get the contract to build one of these and if/how well it works. In theory, it sounds pretty incredible. Its definitely a different direction than what's been tried so far.
