Allegedly the Search For Aliens is Struggling Thanks to Cryptocurrency Mania

According to a researcher at the University of California Berkley's Search For Extraterrestrial Life Research Center (SETI) the cryptocurrency is making more difficult for scientists to secure the equipment needed for search space for alien life. Is it really so serious or I'm not taking it serious enough?

If I get it right, the problem is about GPU graphics processing units which they can't get it or are too much expensive to buy?

Well because of the high demands of cryptocurrency for GPUs , these units can't be used for other purposes such as finding signs of extraterrestrial life.
