Copper Crunch is Coming

The copper market's in for a shortage sooner than expected. Old mines are getting depleted and there's not a lot of investment in new production. meanwhile, EVs are coming. Is it me, or is it EVs everywhere disrupting markets? I'm beginning to sense a hype.

Two things contributing to that coming copper crunch are the threat of labor strikes at Chilean mines (major source), which could take more product offline, and the new mining laws in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which will hike royalties paid to govt and taxes on mining companies.

Copper's climbing right now, too, thanks to easing of trade war fears. First month copper for April delivery added 1.9%...
