What Is Your Political Ideology?

It doesn't sound much like the movie with Denzel Washington and Julia Roberts. Should I read the book? I loved the movie.

Denzel and Julia are pretty strong characters/actors, that form the story around them.  The book leaves character building to your imagination, and it has been said that the imagination cannot be matched when reading or hearing a well told story.

The book is available on Kindle for a reasonable price and I am re-reading it again now.  Great reading.

I own a lot of Kindle Books and own hundreds of physical books, mostly non fiction. Kindle books sure save space!

My political ideology was best summarized by Robert Heinlein in the original and correct Star Ship Troopers, not the ridiculous movie of the same name, which was so execrable the family sued and won without contest.

In Heinlein's vision, you're not a citizen until you've served your country, period. I forget the minimum term but I think 2 years. If you're not a citizen you're merely a resident, and you have no say. The problem with democracy today is people with no skin in the game, who haven't sacrificed, merely vote their personal, selfish interests, and follow "politicians" who pander to those purient interests.

When the US was founded in its current form, only land owners could vote. While that seems bad to the myriad liberals here, the value of such a system was that every land owner had their own skin in the game. Voting did not become what it is today, with three wolves and one lamb, "voting" on what to eat for dinner. The Demoncrats know they've only got to tweak the amygdala of their constituents, never mind the intellect. There's a damn good reason the top 20 cities with the worst rioting and looting are heavily democrat. Their race to the bottom will only ensure that the rest of the country gets to enjoy their particular flavor of ineptitude. Like a roach motel, once in never out, once they've got power, they never relinquish it, voters be dammed. Yes there is rampant fraud, but like a tree falling in the forest, as long as they can eliminate any chance of an investigation, no crime was committed

Did trump serve in any way?

I'm sure you know that correlation does not means causation.

Having liberal political views leads to democrat voting and protesting injustice. There is no need to dream up conspiracy theories on how the democrat party is masterminding everything from covid fear to riots.

If the democrat party had such massive power and organization they wouldn't need to the US to hit rock bottom to retake control. Greedy, rich capitalists may like that scenario , but not most democrats.

Says the clueless CANADIAN who can't even be bothered to understand Alberta's oil industry, while he's living in Alberta. Let alone knows next to nothing if Canada politics.  Still presume to lecture Americans on their politics?

The democrats have sold what little was left of their souls to the socialist/communists who, like the Soviets and CCP before them accept that everything must be destroyed to have a clean slate for the new system to have a chance. You own a house? Too bad, you shouldn't, so better if it's burned down, or you're removed, as the Bolsheviks did to the owners of their society. And after all the John Galts were dead or imprisoned, well, we got to see what communism was good for. Once the first socialist is elected here, that's the last election under democracy. Just like Xi, president for life is next and always the goal. Just like Chavez. Hilariously, every epic failure of socialist/communism is met with, "Bbbuutt this time we'll get it right". Ain't gonna happen, it always fails, but academics love it, and corrupt politicians, naturally.

It's an interesting question though, one thing I've noticed in the last 10 years or so is people talking about ideologies that are very different to what was mainstream for decades i.e nationalism/socialism/communism etc

I came to the conclusion years ago that politics and voting is totally pointless, nothing ever changes and things never get better....Regardless of who is in power we still get screwed and have our faces rubbed in dog sh*t. It just feels like people vote to stop the other side winning instead of vote for actual change and so I will never bother again.

I would be fine with a centrist party to be honest providing they'd have just kept immigration to historic figures or even simply stopped it, I find it (among a few other issues) to be extremely destructive to working class communities and social cohesion as a whole.

I'm not kidding about politicians triggering the amygdala rather than the intellect.

Don't stop voting. Whether you make a change or not it's the thought of it that counts. Eventually we'll have the government from above, the best monarchy.

Just to set your mind at ease, Dan, I am and remain a committed Monarchist.  The form of government that has evolved in Holland is of a limited monarchy, with a Parliament and various Parties in combat with each other.  That part has not worked out so well. But the Monarchy part, that part is running along just fine.  Everybody loves the King and adores his Queen. (And she even made the effort to learn Dutch, so good for her!)   P.S.:  they met in New York.  Kinda neat, considering it used to be Dutch territory.  Cheers.

When I think about something that I read that had an impact on my personal political leanings, I'd say it had to be Gulag Archipelago.   I can remember reading the book and feeling that it couldn't be true.  When Solzhenitsyn sits and writes in a room with candlelight, giving us his narrative as a prisoner in a forced labor camp, it was eye opening, horrifying and felt so improbable in my world.

When I see the Democrats like Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, Jerry Nadler, they strike me as political animals but I'm not afraid of them since I believe people with differing views in Congress will keep them restrained.  However, now we watch BLM and Antifa.  We hear the leaders of BLM tell us blatantly that they have learned Marxists tactics and AOC, Omar and the rest of the so-called squad, truly hate the America we live in today and I feel like we might wind up like Solzhenitsyn.

Like Trump or hate him, he does love his country and is not afraid.  He has been put through the ringer, but he continues to pull off the scab  that is growing over our country.  We can hate his guts, but we now begin to see China as the threat it is, along with Iran and Russia.  I feel we are definitely at a tipping point for our country and if Biden wins the left will be in charge.  What that will look like?  I don't even want to think about it, but I do see the BLM, Antifa, Al Sharpton, George Soros, and others with offices in the WH.

It is a great system, because the power were divided into tri-leg style. I think Thailand is somewhat close to this idea. IMHO, It is not one side fits all but the concept of splitting the political powers remains the same. The People are the same and without traditions or cultural/religion mindsets, empathy and appreciation and a bit of fair competitive mind / nationalism, we are as easily corrupted as any politician.

The bigger the population and natural resources, the more power splitting is needed from state to local level as the tempting for corruption is much bigger and conflicts are much more complicated.

US will always be the most fierce battlefield for corruptions and  social conflicts in the world, between best and worst values , love and hate  (maybe until she loses  world number 1 power position).
