California just ordered the next big tranche of stand alone grid batteries.

CPUC approves California utility projects including PG&E’s 1.6GW/6.4GWh BESS

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has approved new projects by the state’s three investor-owned utilities, including nine battery energy storage system (BESS) facilities proposed by PG&E totalling 1.6GW/6.4GWh.

The resources have to come online between 2023 and 2026 but PG&E expects these nine (which total 1,598.7MW to be exact) will be fully operational by June 2024.

Solar + battery hybrids are poised for explosive growth

Today, solar and hybrids dominate the development pipeline. By the end of 2021, more than 675 gigawatts of proposed solar plants had applied for grid connection approval, with over a third of them paired with storage. Another 247 gigawatts of wind farms were in line, with 19 gigawatts, or about 8% of those, as hybrids.

New trash that may not be true. But I have a gallon of moonshine. Redneck truth starts with moonshine. So Pence is offered a ride by Trumps security to get to safety. Pence reportedly decides to hang out under the Capital because he fears being whisked to Alaska. He wants to stay till the election is certified. Why does Pence fear his own party? We’ll, they were chanting they wanted to hang him. Even brought a gallows.
Remember before the election Trump was dropping the idea of unfairness at the polls. Now days the whisper campaign is about how Trump refuses to condemn Putin for attacking Ukraine. So did these boys talk about it? Trump just hoping for it? You know he can’t stand not being in the middle of it. He’s got Pillow Head and Giuliani for his brain trust. With the combined level of genius and collaboration, Just how whacked can this get. Lol

You can buy it cheaply from the bulk carriers in line at Chinese  ports   Waiting time to dock is about

The fact that you have voted with your wallet to keep driving an ICE fossil fuel vehicle shows that oil demand will continue to climb going forward, and ICE will be the go-to transportation mode of the future as well as of the present.

The only thing I disagree with on this is "your electric car". The chances are fewer and fewer people will own cars due to the large initial financial outlay. Driverless cars that will do as Boat says will be for hire at pennies and come to your door within a couple of minutes with everything you need.

It is far worse than that.  There is no "agreement" to come to.  With the sharing, the size capacity of the cable is economized and SHRUNK compared to a single home.  A single apartment will have a main ~70 amp service at most.  A single EV car is going to demand, at slow charging rate, a dedicated 30 amp connection and many of them are going to DUAL 30amp or 40 amp chargers and if you have 2 cars?  God forbid one goes on vacation all at the same day and comes home on the same day and everyones neighbors charges at night at the same time... Nothing happens like that at say.... CHRISTMAS or any other holiday now does it?  Oh yea, and the greenies wish to eliminate the natural gas heating everyone uses too.  That by itself is another dedicated 40amps for heat.  Not done yet, NG water heater has to be converted and that is going to be another 30amp dedicated circuit.   Now in an apartment complex, they might go with zone distributed heating instead and could lower total electrical load.

End result: 100% of every condo/apartment electrical main distribution etc must be replaced wholesale for EV's even before we talk about elimination of NG.  This is a gargantuan cost as this infrastructure went in first underground.  It also means all the power lines TO the apartment are too small as well along with the transformer etc.  I'll let you figure out that bill.  Ah, do not forget the tax and permit fees.

Apartment buildings aren't as tough as you think - for really old ones, yes, but they ought to get knocked down and replaced anyway, so there's no great loss.  for the rest of them  your 'giant problem' is incredibly easy to solve:

  • charging vehicles - drop a new line from the mains to the parking area, and put charging there - use stations where people who live there punch in a code that bills the electric costs to their unit - or maybe use a credit card or passkey or something to keep track of it (like parking meters already do for all those things)
  • gas heating and water - I'll let you know a little secret - outside of a few small apartment buildings, these aren't things that individual apartment units have at all for the most part - they are already electric.  Providing natura gas service costs more up front to install piping, and the appliances themselves are often more expensive too.  They pay for themselves with cheap fuel.  Apartments are built to rent out, and the builders, and building owners don't care at all how expensive it is to run the appliances in their units, because that cost is passed along to the tenants.  In the few cases where they ARE gas, they are usually whole building systems, with a single hot water heating system for the whole building, and centralized furnaces with local vent and mixing control for individual units.

How can taking a stab at Peak Oil timing be stupid or arrogant. It’s a guess. Do you even know what peak oil is? If we go into WWIII peak oil may have already happened. Maybe using words like “anyone who says” without exactly defining what they are talking about is the disruptive kinda square yellow buss slow one. Your guess/ estimate of a renewable economy and lifestyle is wrong. Individuals/families live that way now.

There is no peak oil but oil depletion. People have found a way around peak oil by drilling more oil wells to extract more oil despite lowering productivity per well

One thing is for sure

Renewable developement/installations/production  worldwide is accelerating and EV's/hybrids production/sales is doubling each year now and this is  laying the ground work for a fall in demand for Coal ...Oil and Nat gas

Peak Coal has happened

Peak Oil is happening

and Finally Peak Nat Gas will happen in my lifetime

I can assure you that the world only has enough oil for next 20 years. The oil reserves and extraction differs from country to country and hence there will be different times when different countries deplete their oil. USA & most western countries will lose all their oil by 2035 while Arabs & Russia will have enough oil till 2050 going by current extraction level. Peak oil is irrelevant as oil depletion is the key.

The Baltic is too shallow for methane hydrates.  Once it ran out of coal, Germany had two options available with existing technology:  nuclear power from imported uranium  and imports of fossil fuels.  That’s what it chose while figuring out how to develop solar and wind. They could currently be in a situation like France where nuclear handles the bulk of the load, but they didn’t.  They literally don’t have anything else in their country.  It’s incredibly resource poor.

Germany has plenty of coal still left underground. Germany could have always relied on its coal reserves instead of going for gas or nuclear power. Even now, Germany can gasify the coal to get natural gas for its power plants. However, this is a bad idea as there is loss of 30% energy during conversion from coal to gas. If Germany uses coal to produce all its electricity, it will be able to power its industry for 30+ years. However, heating, fertiliser & industrial application will still need some gas imports

100 years?  Try 40 That’s about the average age of a power plant when it gets scrapped.  Just because electricity has been around a while doesn’t mean the infrastructure to produce and distribute it doesn’t get constantly updated. As for Russia pulling crap, the quicker the rest of the world can afford to stop buying their stuff the better off it will be.  It literally can’t happen fast enough.

And yes, as an owner of a 56 unit apartment building yes, we used zone heat as it was a single unit block.... but that is the minority at least here in the USA where I live.

Agreed - zone heat is unusual, but it’s not unheard of (I’m in the US too) I lived in a couple of places near San Francisco, and one in Oklahoma that had it.

as for lack of space. That’s really only a problem in really poor urban areas.  Those place  are going to get redeveloped, or at the very least nobody’s going to build new ones like that.  Most apartment buildings/blocks have plenty of parking space, usually with grass and grounds nearby.  A combination of required minimum parking, building setback requirements from the road, flood mitigation and competition to get tenants pretty much ensures this in construction from the last 50 years or so.  Pulling up some landscaping temporarilyand setting the charging infrastructure 1-2 yards/meters back from the curb so it doesn’t get hit accidentally is trivially easy, and looks nice too - that’s how the Tesla charging station by my house is set up at the grocery store.  The batteries and above ground parts of the infrastructure are on the grass, and only the cord goes out to the cars.

In ‘higher rent’ urban areas, most apartments have either individual garages for the tenants on the bottom floor of the building or large concrete parking structures.  In both cases the worst case scenario is having to run a line to the parking area from the mains, then bolt/clip cables along the ceiling and mount charging equipment on the walls.  Put it above the average bumper level of a pickup truck, or on support posts pointed away from the drive paths and nobody can hit it even by accident without totaling their vehicle.

IEEFA U.S.: Wind and solar generated record 34% of ERCOT power in Texas Q1 2022

After passing coal as power source, Texas wind and solar now have natural gas in their sights

The restructuring of the Texas electric generation market continued in the first quarter of 2022, with wind and solar producing a record 34% of the power dispatched by ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas), the transmission system operator that distributes most of the state’s electricity.

The new market share record is particularly impressive in light of the sharp increase in overall electricity demand across ERCOT. Through the first quarter, demand was up more than 9% to 95.1 million megawatt-hours (MWh). But wind and solar are growing at an even faster clip: Wind generation was up 14% for the first three months while solar output jumped a whopping 85%. Together, wind and solar accounted for 71% of the generation increase during the quarter.

Ford starts F-150 Lightning production, confirms second electric pickup model for 2024

Ford on Monday announced the start of "full production of 2022 F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks at its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center, part of the massive Detroit Rouge Complex that builds non-electric F-150 trucks.

Ford said in a press release that it has 200,000 reservations for the Lightning. In response to greater-than-expected demand, Ford said earlier this year that it would expand Lightning production to 150,000 units annually. That will happen in 2023, the automaker confirmed in Monday's release.

Meanwhile, Ford CEO Jim Farley clarified to reporters on Monday that the Tennessee-built electric truck due to be made starting in 2024 won't be a successor to the Lightning; it will be in addition to it. "It's another truck," he said, as quoted by Automotive News. "This is not our only truck. We said very clearly we want to be the leader in electric pickup trucks."

In your cost analysis, did you factor in large scale vandalism, now that crime is considered victimless?

Does the law say your employer cannot fire you if someone cuts your apartment charging cord, making you a few hours late for work?

Will Evercharge send a car for you within 10 minutes to take you to work if your charging cord is cut? (an)d a car to take you home.)

Remember, thousands of packages are looted from trains every day, now that this is considered a victimless, no bail crime.

There is no value gained by cutting a cable, very different from looting packages, no different than keying a car.

You charge your car at night when other appliances aren't running. Even EWO's numbers put the average at only $1500 for the electrician.

Oh and Chevy pays for the level 2 installation bitch.

Chevrolet will cover standard installation of Level 2 charging outlet for eligible customers who purchase or lease a 2022 Bolt EUV or Bolt EV * , helping even more people experience how easy it is to live electric. In collaboration with Qmerit, the offer gives customers access to faster charging right where they want it  at home  and with the new available Dual Level Charge Cord standard on the MY22 Bolt EUV and available on 2022 Bolt EV * a standalone charging station is not required.

You are simply pathetic.
