jalthoff4 + 6 July 14, 2023 After reading several of the more recent posts on this topic, to me there seems to be a considerable disconnect between those who think the novelty of EVs has worn off and that their obvious downsides have ushered in a decline, and those who think that demand is sort of normalizing and that the adoption of EVs is still on track. I dont know where to get raw data on EV sales to do a legitimate analysis, but I wanted to throw out a few anecdotes: I fit the demographic that typically owns a model 3. I dont own one because my wife and I both WFH and only need 1 car. We bought a gas-powered car for the usual suspect reasons mentioned above, especially range anxiety. If I had to start commuting again, I would buy a used model 3 or a new Prius. My wife hates the Prius, so probably a used model 3. I dont think there's a ton of utility in a new model 3 as compared to a used one. My wife owns a 4-legged cash furnace commonly known as a horse. We are looking at trading in our Mercedes GLC for something that can tow said horse. There would need to be a couple of generations of super long-range ford lightnings before Id consider an EV for that purpose. Teslas are everywhere and no one cares if you own one anymore. So the wow-factor is gone. A lot of reports are beginning to outline the fact that EVs arent the panacea for the environment they were sold to be. Even the Economist has reported that nickel mining, etc damages the environment. So my hypothesis is that EVs have settled into being gee-whiz commuters and the new ones are competing with the used ones AND all of the new options that are out or on the horizon. Additionally, you can no longer feel particularly smug about "doing your part" to save the planet just by owning one. No wonder Elon wants you to go back to the office. 1

Sediment is turning against your Clunkers Okay, let's try it again, "According to an April 2023 report by consumer intelligence company JD Power, more Americans are unwilling to buy EVs. In March, 21 percent of new vehicle shoppers said they were “very unlikely” to consider an EV, up from 17.8 percent in January."

The ECB interest rate is 3.75%. Y-on-Y inflation in the USA is at 3%, with a peak of 9% around June 2022. Your Fed interest rate is 5%. Not a big difference, and most of it can be explained by the Russian invasion (EU) and the slow recovery from the COVID crisis (USA). And the wild printing of money by U.S. and European governments to fund the EV revolution....which will again cause another inflationary spike going forward. An exercise in self-flagellation. Green Agenda moving in the right direction Ya Don't say.... Dealers Now Have Nearly Two Million New Cars Sitting On Their Lots Electric vehicles are leading the way when it comes to sitting unsold on dealer lots. The big reason for this 53-day average supply comes down to one thing: EVs. According to the outlet, those vehicles have a 103-day supply. That makes it the only segment other than ultra-luxury and high-end luxury to have supplies on the other side of 100 days. However, Cox does point out that full-size cars were close at 99 days, but that’s not really that surprising. https://jalopnik.com/dealers-now-have-nearly-two-million-new-cars-sitting-on-1850647358 Edited July 18, 2023 by Eyes Wide Open

You can't complain that EV's will strain the grid and ruin the economy if you also say very few EV's will be sold. Pick one.
lexington green + 22 LG July 18, 2023 In the Mid-Atlantic region, the appeal of the Tesla is that it will smoke any ICE muscle car it encounters. The region is full of drivers who love to go out and do battle in their V8 powered SUV's, BMW's of every sort, and HEMI powered pickups. But the Teslas, even the Model 3's are eating their lunch. And then it costs about half or less to re-fuel. The race is mostly over.
