The interest rate cut benefits Tesla more than other manufactures.  The markets think if you can get cheaper loans you will choose EV.

Not if the natural limits of their market space have been reached. The only result would then be a further decline in price with practically zero elasticity in the demand curve...remember your ECON 100 introductory lessons?

+4.2% today

+43.8% 6 months

+0.53% YOY

Ford - Some electric but decided to slow EV transition

+0.18% today

-15.5% 6 months

-13.4% YOY

Would you choose losing 15.5% over the last 6 months or gaining 43.8% over the same time period?

Hi Jay and fellow enthusiasts, I think your knowledge of the e-vehicle market is wonderful, and feel that it is crucial to hear about this today!  I think e-vehicles are the new wave of the future.  As a fellow business owner, I see the dramatic effect gasoline is doing on global warming.  We must get rid of gasoline driven vehicles.  Even though the electric lawnmower had it's problems when it first started, now it is the norm.  So too, should the electric vehicle replace the gasoline vehicle!!!!  Yes, there are risks involved, but as a nation we must convert to this plan and save mother earth!

What forms of pollution would you support limiting with government regulation?  You seem to support all forms of pollution.

If not CO2 how about methane, heavy metals, carbon monoxide, ozone, PM 2.5?

Re: Safety, Security, and Sovereignty of The Kingdom of Canada- Transport infrastructure, Infrastructure and Highways, Trade and Commerce – PERMANENT ban on Electric Vehicles, FORTHWITH.

I AM, HRM Queen Romana Didulo, Commander-in-Chief, President, National Indigenous Chief and Queen of the Kingdom of Canada, hereby issue this Royal Decree effective immediately dated today September 23, 2024 as follows, under “Natural Law.”

Section 1 – Electric Vehicles Manufacturing

Forthwith, the manufacturing of “ELECTRIC VEHICLES” is prohibited and permanently banned in The Kingdom of Canada.

Section 2 - Electric Vehicles Exporting

Forthwith, the exporting of “ELECTRIC VEHICLES” is prohibited and permanently banned in The Kingdom of Canada.

Section 3 - Electric Vehicles Importing

Forthwith, the importing of “ELECTRIC VEHICLE[S]” is prohibited and permanently banned in The Kingdom of Canada.

Section 4 – Forthwith, implement and execute closures/shutdowns of all manufacturing and processing plants specific to manufacturing, exporting and or importing of Electric Vehicles and all of its components in The Kingdom of Canada.

Section 5 – Forthwith, cancel, revoke, nullify, void and disband any and all programs, ministries, bureaus committees, commissions, initiatives pertaining to electric vehicles in The Kingdom of Canada.

Section 6 – Forthwith, cancel, revoke, nullify, void, disband and prohibit, and DE-FUND any and all programs, initiatives, advertisements, etc pertaining to Electric Vehicles in The Kingdom of Canada

Section 7 – Electric Vehicles on Kingdom of Canada’s Highways and Roads. Forthwith, due to safety [lithium battery], safety, and security concerns pertaining to Electric Vehicles high propensity to explode and catch on fire....a complete, absolute, and full ban on electric vehicles [of all kinds] inclusive e-bikes/e-scooters from all Roads, Highways, public places, will take full effect on September 22, 2025 in The Kingdom of Canada.
This will provide one full year for Owners of Electric Vehicles to find other means of transport, seek compensation for defective products from manufacturers and sellers of electric vehicles, e-bikes/e-scooters, etc.

Section 8 - General contractors Nationality. Forthwith, ensure all “general contractors” [previously known as employees] at Ministry of Transport Canada are Canadian Nationals only across The Kingdom of Canada.

Section 9- Automobile Business Nationality. Forthwith, ensure all Automobile Business Owners are Canadian Nationals only.

Section 10 - Automobile Businesses ownership and control Forthwith, ensure all Automobile Businesses ownership and control are 100% Canadian Nationals only.

Section 11 - Contracting / Sub-contracting. Forthwith, contracting / sub-contracting to non Canadian Nationals is strictly prohibited and unlawful.

Section 12 - Ministries/Bureaus and or Departments affected by this Royal Decree. Forthwith, all Ministries/Bureaus and or Departments affected by this Royal Decree are hereby instructed to work cohesively and ensure companies are fully in compliance with all requirements herein.

I just saw my first Tesla "truck" today. Pretty ugly but it has a lot of aficianados. Plenty of features but small.

It looks like Europe and America will be in some sort of a trade war with China. They are canceling billions of dollars of corn purchases with us and selling billions of dollars of American bonds. Mainly because of our unreasonable tariffs. Western nations cannot afford to lose the support of their highly paid autoworkers.

They are the largest producer, indeed. But how will the West allow them to put their own EV producers out of business? What will their autoworkers say? Volkswagen may be shutting down their giant auto plant in Wolfsburg.

China will take over everything except the US/Canada and the EU .....then they will have more than 60 percent of the market...and then????? if they are producing at 1/2 or 1/3 less than the cost of the West.......it is only a matter of time when they are allowed to produce in the US/EU

 

This is no different than the Japan invasion into the US auto  market in the 60's and 70's ...remember the good old days of all the fear mongering that we all would be working for the Japaneses automakers....this led to quotas and tariffs which then the Japanese built plants across the US

This will all take time. Charging sites will have to be built. Few people will be able to charge at home due to less wattage. Service will be tougher to get and reliability issues will crop up quickly. It takes time for people to accept new technology. It will be a few decades, and will only work out for small vehicles.

yes it takes time...that said plugin hybrids will take over the new US car market in the US and the EU within the next 10 years  not decades....

it is a race to the bottom in oil....new tech in cars....battery tech ...plug in hybrid tech.......are not big oils friends 

all the automakers are scrambling to get hybrids to market....to try to stem the China tide...China is in fast forward mode to get new ro-ro's on the high seas........BYD has 8 under construction... and at the same time they are building plants all over the world

and as this happens the MPG increases every year and Oil demand will suffer a slow death.......

the oil market today....dog eat dog....The Saudis will not hold back production for long.....50 dollar crude????????? on the horizon...everyone in oil is making money at $70 a barrel....can one say that when oil is at $50 I doubt it

If EV can be manufactured to function and last like Nokia 3310... at an affordable or popular price, many might not mind to drive an EV.

"The more competitive the market, the lower the quality of product produced" is a generalization made. Limitation of raw material, costs of production including labour, too profit orientated etc might be a few reasons involved. At the end, tonnes of waste produced from

a) unable to be sold goods, due to poor quality. These products generally become waste in warehouses of the world, especially developing countries. Wasting money, wasting time, wasting resources.

b) phased out products

- the latest business model requires a change of handphone each time there is a new update. Phased out  products become waste that at the end, pollute the environment, taking up space of dump site, wasting money etc.

c) demand and quality disparity between the east and the west.

- westerners have higher bone mass, higher rate of obesity or overweight, much taller than easterners. Cars produced by Asian countries rarely able to sustain the heavy weight of westerners or the obesed. They will need to change cars often before the seats bent into a hollow center that sucks the butt in, difficult to get up and out. Heard some people had to change his BMW every year to prevent the problem.

Worry of the west imposing high tariff on EV made in China is probably unnecessary. One bad experience, the whole circle of car owners would no longer give it a second chance. 

 

Old business models that

i) produced high quality products that last,

ii) give option to people if they want to change phone (some older generation might just need basic functions), 

should be revived.

A higher market quality standard should be set. This aims to disallow poor quality products getting licence until they pass the quality mark.

EVs are evolving fast. It could be like evolution of handphones, poor quality of battery posts danger to users every now and then, despite it is of high price and of famous brand. 

Market revolution is in your hands... Make wise decision to save the earth...

who is claiming low cost EVs are low quality??????

An EV pwertrain is so much simpler than a ICE vehicle......with reason so much less to go wrong ...as to the rest of the vehicle........Is anyone claiming EVs are with substandard air bags or paint jobs??????

 

 

no idea why you are babbling about the weight of the Driver  (most cars in the West are with only one occupant.......)

do you think the seats are cheaper in China made cars????? guess one could claim that fat people need to have extra duty seats.......Would be easy for a car destined to be sold in the US to have ....Fat people tested seats....added cost???? a couple of bucks for a heavier steel seat frame......

and you are comparing phones to cars???? well look at the changes in the last 30 years ....Phones are 100% electronic devices today ....Phones from 30 years ago ...Analog devices with real bells in them......Do you love your old phone stuck on the wall???????? Do you think that we should go back to the phone system that existed 30 years ago?????  Better Quality that never wears out??? ha ha ha

1) Do not believe all internet graphics / memes.

2) One bar of battery does not mean the phone still works.  It almost certainly didn't nor could it be made workable again because SIM cards / technology has changed since then.  Adaptation to change is required for a good life. 

3)) You can still buy simple phones.  I have an old friend who still doesn't have a smartphone and refuses to use text messaging...  Is his life better for using a crap phone?

You might have not fully captured the content.

1. Why do you think the costs of producing EV are getting lower?

Like phones, producers would  outsource the production line where major population is to increase sales. Once outsourced, you might have

a) lower labour cost with lower quality of workmanship ( commonly found differences in attitude/  ethic and capability etc between the west and the east)

b) lower parts quality with plenty impurity that causes phone to heat up faster and reduces lifespan of a battery from decades to a year or three ( depend on usages). Used to be good quality products like outsourced Samsung, Apple, can not avoid the trend.

EV oursourced to China, India, Indonesia would likely face the same cycle of evolution like phone. India set a policy " everything that goes into India will no longer have their copy right protected but entitle India the right to copy". China used to be the same but they evolve to lead lately.

EV no doubt is good in reducing air polution and waste heat on the road or in the city. But before technology is matured enough to have little damage to the environment e.g. during mining of raw material, e-waste produced etc, there is a need to give it time to not repeat the same problems with evolution of phones.

2. Accidentally read info on how power required by a car is calculated few years ago. It takes into account the weight of average passeger, number of passengers. The most primary factor is still total weight of a finished car

- as mentioned, lighter weight of easterners would enable manufacturers to reduce the amount of material used, yet still comes to the same power.

But when a westerner purchases a car in the east, weight factor will affect the power of car, durability of car seats designed for feather weight etc, yes? Therefore, if the east exports EV to the west, it might not necessarily saleable. Westerners who use the cars often would likely notice compared to those who buy and park.

This brought to the point related to "if heavy tariff on imported EV made in China is necessary".

3. With so much sabotage over my investment, publication or work online, I used to adopt a habit of having 2 phones. One for basic calling, messenging; another for accessing internet.

I have minimal info, contacts on the internet accessing phone. In case there is hacking and they overwrite the control of my phone, including not able to call out; no important call in can be received; intercept calls, sabotage my interaction online etc, my contacts will not be compromised.

But later, when complete isolation has been successful, yesmen + spectators > number of people who knew and feel angry at what they do or who can help directly, and all blessing ruined as they have planned and celebrated in total excitement, i just have one phone. 

Old phones not necessarily out of date. Systems of old phones are what future minor updates based on. For examples: Fine tuning a little bit here and there e.g. clearer camera, smaller or larger flip phone/ pad, faster internet connection, available of new smiley faces or stickers, ability to group chat, etc.

For the third point, would like to show an image of old classic Rolls Royce. It shows how quality of life has dwindled from true enjoyment to merely show off class and wealth by owning a name of brand.

Not going forward with trend does not always represent back ward or shit life. According to an enginner from England, there might be nothing truely innovative of late. We are actually going backward to dig out old creation and improvise on those. 

Therefore, there might be something we can learn from your friend who is not a fan of tech.
