Coca-Cola eyes cannabis

Recommended Posts

The Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE: KO) is weighing a jump into the world of cannabis. The Atlanta-based beverage giant is in talks with Canadian marijuana producer Aurora Cannabis Inc. to develop CBD-infused drinks, according to a report from Bloomberg. The news outlet said that the company is monitoring the industry and is interested in CBD, or cannabidiol — the chemical in marijuana often used for medicinal purposes.

Marijuana is poised to grow larger than soda in the coming years. Cannabis is a rapidly growing market.  Thirty states and Washington D.C. have legalized Medical marijuana, and another Nine states and Washington D.C. have legalized recreational marijuana, and that number is expected to keep growing.

Interesting that they're focusing on CBD rather than THC right now.

Oh come on man they didn’t say CC was doing anything with any cannabis comp just exploring. The FDA will highly scrutinize this for sure!

Meanwhile, soda sales are trending down, as health consciousness grows. Consumers aren’t buying the sugary drinks as they realize the effects such drinks have on their health. In fact, per capita, carbonated soft drink consumption has declined to a 31-year low in the United States in 2016. The market in North America fell from $78.3 billion in 2016 to $76.4 billion last year

It seems that cannabis could easily be in one of the top tech stocks in coming years, but there are also risk factors that need to be considered. Soda, on the other hand, is on its way out

I think that the Coca Cola management needs to abandon this idea.

It's not surprising to hear that Coca-Cola is exploring the possibility of developing CBD-infused drinks, given the increasing popularity of hemp-derived CBD oils and other cannabis products for medicinal and wellness purposes. While CBD is derived from the marijuana plant, it's important to note that hemp-derived CBD oils contain very low levels of THC, the psychoactive component found in marijuana, and are legal under federal law as long as they contain less than 0.3% THC.

www.tmedweb.tulane.edu/ marijuana

Drugbank online

From info provided, this synthetic extract is lipophylic. Besides the brain, it also acts on the liver, heart, kidney etc.

Soluble in fat might indicate it can be accumulated in the body, hence has the ability to show compounding effects or  side effects of marijuana and take much longer time than expected to clear.

One of the action is It inhibits reuptake of noradrenaline, serotonin, dopamine, GABA, etc....

The initial medical effects might be related to these inhibition.

But, side effects shown are also caused by inhibiting normal functions of these neurotransmitters.

Met a young recreational grass smoker and small time trader, who shows symptomes of insomnia, mental illness, at a very young age of 16. A few others recreational smokers, possibly traders, part time construction workers, show signs of mental illness at the age of 30s.

Therefore, it might be highly controversial shall it is used for recreational purpose.....

Unless the aim is.......... Unkind.........
