IS planning to attack Libya?

Senior official from the U.S. Africa Command AFRICOM told local media that Islamic State (IS) in Libya may be planning an attack on the country’s so-called Oil Crescent, where its export terminals and many fields are located. Also, Libyan self-styled army in eastern region, Ahmed Al-Mismari, said that they have information that IS is preparing an attack on the oil crescent region.

Gaddafi may not have been a perfect, however Libya was not the mess that it is now. It is almost impossible to figure out who is controlling what over there. That is why it will always be soft target for IS

A report on Libya I saw recently suggested that there have been 1,700 different armed groups vying for power as well as more than one Government.

Well, since last September, the Oil Crescent has been under the control of the Libyan National Army, which is affiliated with the eastern government but working with the National Oil Corporation to protect the area from militant groups. Vast majority of those mentioned armed groups have in take in oil. Just small tribes

ISIS has attacked Libyan oil before, but they don't have the foothold in Libya yet, I don't think, to launch a big enough attack. Depends who they ally with there mostly. That's the game: various militias allied with vying political powers and most of them will use ISIS to help them if it suits them, even if they are enemies.
