AMAZON WILD FIRES CAUSING POLITICAL FIRE STORM IN BRASIL

Recommended Posts

The current wildfires are causing a similar situation within the the Brazilian political arena, with AGW Gurus and international press are pushing it hard https://www.ecowatch.com/amazon-deforestation-norway-fund-2639894385.html https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2019/08/22/photos-heres-how-amazon-wildfires--look-space/ and are taking full advantage of the current situation and JB has been criticised for his recent comments regarding Norway and Germany, stating the Norway should look at its own agenda and the fact that whale killing is not considered very environmentally friendly either, also commenting that Angela Merkel should concentrate on replacing the forests depleted in Germany.

The country is using the current situation to push agendas from far right and far left and JB will have his work cut out over the next weeks. His argument is that the ONGs are the probable causes of the fires to try and destabilise the far right government.

JB retweeted a fairly robust response from Filipe G Martins - Professor of International Politics, the ironic part was that the tweet was carried out in English which has gone viral in Brasil.

Take the time to read his argument https://twitter.com/filgmartin/status/1164521950842163200

This will be JB biggest challenge to date with condemnation coming from various world leaders.

"The Amazon is plundered from foreign companies each year of raw materials for construction in the first world with tonnes of Gold and precious stones stolen by Asian gem companies"- JB

Difficult times ahead.

Once the heavy tropical rains wash away all the topsoil he will be left with a semi desert of little or no economic value. Removal of the Amazon will also have a significant effect on the local climate for the worse.

Why the rolling eyes Dougal? Does it make sense to turn the Amazon into this which is what will happen once all the tree cover is stripped off.

Um, guys, without reading in detail what's been written there has been considerable push-back, even in the liberal media that the this year's burn offs in the Amazon are all that unusual .. this story says that there are 35 per cent more fires than the average of the past few years. But undoubtedly some commentators have become over-enthusiastic as noted here.

You will also see statements such as worse ever since records have been kept  but this is immediately qualified by the admission that records only start in 2013.

Wildfires started through the slash and burn approach to agriculture occur every year both in the Amazon basin and in other countries, notably Indonesia which has had some very bad wildfires in the past. Both countries have promised to do more to control this practice but bear in mind you are talking about subsistence farmers for the most part, who don't pay a lot of attention to government and the government insitutions in those areas are not very strong to begin with..
