In a message released Tuesday, Cornell President Martha E. Pollack told the campus community that the university’s surveillance testing “has continued to identify the rapid spread of COVID-19” among students. According to the Ivy League school’s website, 97 percent of the overall population on the Ithaca, New York campus has been fully vaccinated. That includes 100 percent of professional faculty, 98 percent of other employees, and 99 percent of undergraduate students. As of Dec. 12, there are 469 active student cases, including 214 newly confirmed positives. “While faculty and staff case numbers currently remain low, just last evening our COVID-19 testing lab team identified evidence of the highly contagious Omicron variant in a significant number of Monday’s positive student samples,” Pollack said, adding that the university now moves to “alert level red,” which indicates high risk, for the first time since the early days of the pandemic. Pollack also emphasized that there is only preliminary evidence of Omicron’s presence on the Cornell campus, as PCR testing has identified the variant’s characteristic “S-gene dropout” in a substantial number of virus samples. That being said, the university is “proceeding as if it is” while awaiting genome sequencing information that can confirm whether the source is Omicron. In an effort to curb the spread of what could be Omicron, which appears to be significantly more transmissible but generally causes milder symptoms compared to other variants, Cornell is going to facilitate a number of changes. All university activities involving undergraduates and all university-sponsored events, including the Dec. 18 graduation ceremony, will be canceled. Libraries and gyms will be closed. Students are also advised to get a negative COVID-19 test result before any travel. Visitors and guests are not allowed on campus, except those coming to pick up students for break. “Any student who has not tested negative in the past 48 hours should get a supplemental test as soon as possible,” Pollack wrote. “Students are encouraged to stay in Ithaca, in their residences, until their test results are received, and severely limit interactions with others during that time.” When it comes to the finals, Pollack said all final exams will move to an online format, and that students should look to their professors as they make changes, as many may need to reschedule in accordance with the changes. In a previous message sent out on Monday, Pollack said the university has suspended all classes, and that students have until March 29 to move out, except international students who cannot return home. Undergraduate students and professional master’s students with research or other projects will not be able to continue them on campus. Prior to the Monday and Tuesday announcements, Cornell had already imposed some strict measures in hope of limiting the spread of the virus. The university requires everyone to wear a mask indoors at all times, regardless of their vaccination status, unless when eating or drinking or being alone in a private space like an office or a dorm room. Unvaccinated students are also required to maintain a 6-foot physical distance with others whenever possible. As of Dec. 12, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office has reported 38 confirmed Omicron cases across the state, including two in Tompkin County, where Cornell University is seated.

Tom Nolan + 2,443 TN December 17, 2021 https://oilprice.com/Energy/Oil-Prices/Oil-Prices-Dip-As-Omicron-Cases-Surge.html Oil Prices Dip As Omicron Cases Surge By Tsvetana Paraskova - Dec 17, 2021, 10:00 AM CST Crude futures were under slight pressure early Friday in Asia as Omicron worries returned The Fed's stance of tightening monetary policy next year started to lead to anxiety about economic growth Join Our Community Oil prices fell early on Friday and were on track for a weekly loss as the fast-spreading Omicron COVID variant increased concerns about a potential hit to oil demand, while the hawkish Fed stance of tightening monetary policy next year started to lead to anxiety about economic growth. As of 10:00 a.m. EDT on Friday, WTI Crude was down 1.87% at $71.10 and Brent Crude prices had fallen by 1.75% to $73.71. Oil prices were up on Wednesday and Thursday, following a bullish inventory report from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) showing falling U.S. crude and oil product inventories and a record petroleum demand in America for the week to December 10. However, the fast-spreading Omicron variant and the possibility that tighter monetary policy could harm economic growth next year weighed on the oil market early on Friday. “Crude futures were under slight pressure early Friday in Asia as Omicron worries returned centre-stage after the market had priced in the relief and optimism triggered by the US Federal Reserve and a bullish set of weekly US stocks and demand data on Wednesday,” Vanda Insights said in a note. “As the week comes to an end, markets are focussing on the high rates of transmissibility being reported for the Omicron variant but struggling to assess its full implications and impact,” Vanda Insights added. The UK reported a record number of daily new COVID cases for a second day in a row on Thursday, Germany warned of a “massive fifth wave” with Omicron infections, while cases are rising in the U.S. too, with Omicron spreading fast. “Omicron developments continue to impact the short-term demand outlook,” Ole Hansen, Head of Commodity Strategy at Saxo Bank, said on Friday. “A weaker dollar has been offset by tighter monetary policies potentially softening the 2022 growth outlook further. While Europe is dealing with a worsening energy crisis, milder than normal weather in Asia has led to a less demand for fuel products used in power generation and heating,” Hansen added. The results of the study by Imperial College London were based on UK Health Security Agency and National Health Service data on people who tested positive for COVID-19 in a PCR test in England between Nov. 29 and Dec. 11. "We find no evidence (for both risk of hospitalisation attendance and symptom status) of Omicron having different severity from Delta," the study said, although it added that data on hospitalisations remains very limited. "Controlling for vaccine status, age, sex, ethnicity, asymptomatic status, region and specimen date, Omicron was associated with a 5.4-fold higher risk of reinfection compared with Delta," the study, which was dated Dec. 16, added. The protection afforded by past infection against reinfection with Omicron may be as low as 19%, Imperial College (ICL) said in a statement, noting that the study had not yet been peer reviewed. The researchers found a significantly increased risk of developing a symptomatic Omicron case compared to Delta for those who were two or more weeks past their second vaccine dose, and two or more weeks past their booster dose. The study involved AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines. Depending on the estimates used for vaccine effectiveness against symptomatic infection from the Delta variant, this translates into vaccine effectiveness of between 0% and 20% after two doses, and between 55% and 80% after a booster dose. "This study provides further evidence of the very substantial extent to which Omicron can evade prior immunity given by both infection or vaccination," study lead Professor Neil Ferguson said in ICL's statement. "This level of immune evasion means that Omicron poses a major, imminent threat to public health." TOO EARLY? But Dr Clive Dix, former Chair of the UK Vaccine Taskforce, said it was important not to overinterpret the data. "The conclusions made are based on making assumptions about Omicron where we still don't have sufficient data," Dr Dix said. "For example, we have no data on the cellular immune response which is now probably driving effectiveness of vaccines." "This is a crucial missing assumption in the modelling." Some of the conclusions are different to the data emerging from South Africa, where vaccines are holding up well against severe disease and death at present, he said. "There is a huge amount of uncertainty in these modelled estimates and we can only be confident about the impact of boosters against Omicron when we have another month of real-world data on hospitalisation ICU numbers and deaths," he said. An earlier study by Britain's SIREN looking at reinfection risk in health workers, which was carried out before Omicron emerged, found that a first coronavirus infection offered 85% protection from a second for the following six months. The data analysed by Imperial College was based on 333,000 cases, including 122,062 of Delta and 1,846 which were confirmed as the Omicron coronavirus variant through genome sequencing. Imperial College's Professor Azra Ghani, who co-led the study, described it as "essential for modelling the likely future trajectory of the Omicron wave and the potential impact of vaccination and other public health interventions." The new findings could accelerate the imposition of tighter restrictions across a number of European countries in a bid to stem the new variant's spread. Fauci's caveat was that the number of vaccinated individuals - 'especially those with booster shots,' will leave them "relatively well protected, at least against severe disease," and that he's most worried about the unvaccinated. "With omicron breathing down our back, things could get really bad, particularly for the unvaccinated," he said during an event hosted by the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation. "The vaccinated and those who are boosted I believe will be relatively well protected, at least against severe disease." About that... South Africa doesn't appear to be having problem despite just 23% of the population having been vaccinated. "Besides the toll of suffering and death which will inevitably go up if in fact we have that convergence in the winter months of flu and omicron and delta, we could get our hospital systems overwhelmed," Fauci said. The Biden administration has emphasized that boosters are the best response to the new variant, and has dismissed the idea of further business closures. Asked about business closures, Fauci said "it's going to really depend on how well we do the interventions," like wearing masks in indoor public settings and getting booster shots. "If we do that, I don't believe we'll have to be doing any kind of shutdown with regard to businesses in your community," he said. -The Hill For anyone paying attention, the new omicron variant has been described by officials around the world as 'far more transmissible, yet mild' in comparison to other Covid-19 strains. This means that while fewer people are likely to die of omicron as a percentage of those infected, its hyper-transmissibility means a lot more people will contract the new strain - and despite a smaller percentage of severe cases, the actual number of hospitalizations may rise sharply. In other words, the nuance here is in the denominator - and by leaving that out, Fauci is intentionally scaremongering. That is... Can anyone give a coherent explanation for why "boosters" are being mandated to curb "Omicron," which is purportedly spreading at exponential rates because existing vaccines do not prevent infection/transmission? Tom Nolan + 2,443 TN December 19, 2021 Note that the chart explicitly states that the data is a simplified, hypothetical scenario that isn't based on any specific viral variant. It is a generalized depiction of the consequences of big numbers: a virus that is terrifically contagious but not terribly lethal (i.e. "mild") still ends up killing far more people than the more severe but less contagious variants because the number of infected people becomes consequentially large very quickly. To demonstrate the basic concept, consider a hypothetical Variant A that is only mildly contagious, i.e. each infected person ends up infecting 1.2 other people, but with high lethality, i.e. 1% of those infected die within a few months of contracting the pathogen. If 10 million people eventually contract the disease, 100,000 (1%) will lose their lives. Now consider a severely contagious Variant B, i.e. each infected person ends up infecting 3.5 other people, that is "mild" in terms of lethality, killing 0.5% of all those infected. If this far more contagious variant eventually infects 100 million people, 500,000 will die--five times the number of those who died from the much more lethal variant A. These outsized consequences of a highly contagious "mild" virus manifest not just in deaths but in hospitalizations and long-term disabilities generated by the viral disease. Also by Kaczynski in Poland and Orban in Hungary, Macron smashed the Yellow Vests in France with it. Tom Nolan + 2,443 TN December 20, 2021 Stocks headed for a sharply lower open Monday morning at the start of a holiday-shortened week of trading, with investors considering renewed virus-related restrictions overseas and prospects that a significant social policy bill may be scuttled. Contracts on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq each dropped more than 1%. The Dow headed for a drop of more than 300 points, or 0.9%, ahead of the opening bell. Treasury yields fell as investors piled into safe haven assets, and the benchmark 10-year yield held below 1.4%. The CBOE Volatility Index, or VIX, spiked more than 20% to hover above 25. U.S. crude oil prices sank 3% to trade below $69 per barrel as restrictions mounted in Europe, stoking jitters around energy demand. Countries from Germany to Ireland imposed curfews or travel restrictions in recent days given the rapidly spreading new variant. And the Netherlands over the weekend announced a nation-wide lockdown of non-essential stores, bars and restaurants until Jan. 14. As of this weekend, the Omicron variant had been reported in about 89 countries, with cases doubling every 1.5 to 3 days. Renewed fears over the economic impact of the Omicron variant compounded with last week's concerns for investors around the prospects of tighter monetary policy, with the Federal Reserve accelerating its rate of asset-purchase tapering and signaling three interest rate hikes could be coming next year. Last week, each of the three major indexes posted steep weekly losses. The Nasdaq Composite fell 3% and the S&P 500 and Dow each dropped by nearly 2% for the week. Still, other updates around the effect of current COVID-19 vaccines on the variant were more upbeat. Moderna (MRNA) said Monday that a booster, or a third dose, of its shot increased Omicron neutralizing antibody levels. This echoed results from Pfizer (PFE) and BioNTech (BNTX) from earlier this month about the effectiveness of their vaccine's third dose on neutralizing Omicron. Shares of Moderna gained more than 7% ahead of the opening bell. Investors also digested the unexpected news that Senator Joe Manchin (D., W. Va.) would not support President Joe Biden's $1.75 billion Build Back Better social policy bill. Manchin, speaking on Fox News Sunday, said he had discussed with Democratic House and Senate leaders and President Biden, but was unable to come to an agreement on the bill given concerns about inflation, the national debt and ongoing pandemic. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki released a statement calling Manchin's comments "a sudden and inexplicable reversal in his position," and said the administration would work to move forward with the legislation next year. Still, Goldman Sachs this weekend slashed its quarter GDP forecasts for 2022 following Sen. Manchin's withdrawal of support for the bill. The economists, led by Jan Hatzius, said they expected the "fiscal impulse will be somewhat more negative" than previously expected next year, in absence of the spending on social and climate-related policies included in the bill. The firm lowered its U.S. GDP forecast to 2% from 3% for the first quarter of 2022, to 3% from 3.5% for the second quarter, and to 2.75% from 3% for the third quarter. The Covid insanity helps them gain control over the remaining rational people, they think. Lets prove them wrong by defying their mandates and voting their supporters out of offices in every elected position in the country and the world.

If the serious side effect rate from the vaccines is higher than 0.000027, which it is, then that represents avoidable harm. Additionally, the few who do develop life-threatening infectious disease need to be treated with medicines, not vaccinated. Nobody is dying of vaccine deficiency, everyone who dies is dying of a weak immune system… …Without an intact immune system, even the vaccines don’t work. Natural immunity has been making vaccines look good for a long time… …Why would ANYONE submit to a vaccine that is a toxin? Why would anybody in their right mind even consider being injected with 40 trillion RNA particles that make spike protein, when that is how coronaviruses enter living cells? Why would anyone want all the cells in their body wide open to ACE receptor site to a notoriously mortal virus?…. It is advisable for anyone who is old or infirm, but all should be able to refuse it and live free. Many supplements and other treatments should have been allowed and encouraged all along, rather than being censored and not allowed in hospitals. How many have died due to these treatments and supplements not being encouraged or allowed? Edited December 22, 2021 by ronwagn
